Description

Coming into draft day, the Wings hold the 6th pick hoping to get the next piece of their rebuild. The draft plays out with Hughes and Kakko going 1 & 2 as expected. Chicago throws a curve by taking Byrum at 3. Cozens goes to Colorado at 4 and Dach goes to LA at 5. Buffalo needs scorers desparately, so with Podkolzin falling they call Holland proposing a trade: Wings trade down to 7 and also get their other 1st round pick (from San Jose) to move up one to the 6th pick.

Now with the extra pick in the first round, Holland makes another unexpected move: trading for the rights to RFA defenseman Jacob Trouba.

Mike Green continues to experience health issues and is placed on IR to start the season.
