Edm pick

Created by: ashaw9377
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 10, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seems like Edmonton might be willing to move the 8th overall pick for an established forward. Haven't watched Russell much so I dont know his value but his possession numbers have consistently decreased over the years so it seems like he doesn't have much value and the rangers with cap room would be able to absorb the cap hit.

Rangers would be wise not to resign Kreider and trade him at the draft.

At 8 rangers could target Zegras, Dach, Turcott, Krebs, or the unlikely scenario that Podkolzin falls because of fear he doesn't leave Russia.

How far off is the value here. Would it be better to include more picks and rights to Pionk instead of Kreider?

Wouldn’t be anything retained on Russell, he would be a lot better if he wasn’t playing RD. Now Lucic with $2 mill retained though?

Instead of taking 2 years of retained salary on Russel, could they just take Gagner, Brodziak or Kassian (nothing retained)?

Moving up in the Draft would be great. But if we could move Kreider for a Defenseman, I would probably enjoy that just as much.

I certainly think the oilers are looking to trade the 8th pick. The only problem with this trade is krieder doesn’t have enough term on his contract left. This trade puts the oilers in a situation where they trade a high end prospect for a player that can walk away a year later and that’s something they can’t afford to do. They can’t take any risk due to losing every trade they’ve made in the last 3 years.

I agree with that but how many kreider for trouba trades can we see here. Was trying to do something different. The way I see the rangers, even with Kakko/Hughes they aren't a legitimate cup contender unless they fix the defense. So if can get another young asset for an aging winger I would love that. As much as i love Kreider he just doesn't fit in the best interest of the organization now. Signing him long term would probably require a 6 year deal and I wouldn't commit that to him. I would be fine with taking either of Granger or brodziak.

I want nothing to do with Lucic. Too many years left even at 4 mil.

Would your opinion change if an extension was in place?

Ya 100%. If an extension was in place this is the kind of trade the oil need to make. Their D is fine when healthy the real problem is they’re so thin at the forward position.

Absolutely. Trouba trades beaten to death. I myself keep trying to find other candidates (Lindholm, Brodin, the kid Urho from Boston, etc). It's tough, but I would almost prefer D help now than a higher Draft pick down the line.

Your correct that defensive help would be priority number 1. I think a deal for lindholm would be difficult because of his contract. It's a very good value for him and hes only 25. Maybe Manson would be a better target from Anaheim and we can package Pionk. Vaakanainan from Boston is very interesting. Not sure the cost for him but would be willing to take back 1 year of Miller for him.

If Kreider had term on his deal then the oilers would’ve accepted. Oilers say no to this one though
