Draft Day grabbing another Pick

Description
What would it take to pry the 12th overall from Minny?

This could be homer goggles, but I feel that Gus in a vacuum could be worth a pick from 20-25. He had a great year but still has to prove he's the real deal and is a UFA at the end of next season.

Is the Blackhawks 2nd rounder (#43) plus Sikura and something else be enough to get it done? Or is this a fool's errand?

Alternatively, I could stomach parting with a higher end D prospect with Gus, if that's what it takes and there's another quality Forward available at 12.

Draft trades get you far less than TDL trades. Gus could get Muzzin type return @ the TDL. Pick #25, and (2) 2nd rounder type prospects that can be roles players, but not superstars. A draft trade...not nearly as much.

But what at all is the sense of parting with a high end D prospect, when the Hawks' D core is so bad right now, and they'll need as many of them to not bust as possible? There is no reason to get another first rounder this year at the loss of a D prospect, because you're just needlessly kicking the can further down the road.

Outside of that, this trade doesn't happen. The rub isn't that you aren't offering sufficient pieces to call the value good, its that no team is going to trade their first found pick either at the draft in a very public manner, or before it when they'd have to answer for it to their fan base (and this package doesn't make their fans happy).

I agree with your first paragraph. Disagree that Gus isn't worth a 1st round pick at the draft.

Habs would be all over that if Minny passes.

Gustafsson had an incredibly quiet 60p season, but the Wild really don't need any help on the blue line. Our biggest need is for a young 1C or a prospect that has that potential. Hawks don't have a guy like that (or at least one they'd be willing to move), but if they did I could see us moving our pick for that type of player unless a guy like Zegras is still available at 12.

I could maybe see a trade revolving around Jokiharju if we decide to move on from Spurgeon, however...

I hope we have a chance to find out, and I hope you're right, for the return... That being said, I don't think GM in his right mind (remember, Chiarelli is gone!) looks at the numbers, and then says "well, I can deal with the fact that the kid couldn't defend well in peewee just for his points. Here's my first!" Just don't buy it.

Curious, what would you offer for joki? Hawks would probably want the return to revolve around 12oa+ or maybe brodin or zucker +

I could see us offering something like Zucker + Belpedio (22 yo RHD with 2nd pairing upside that could be a PP specialist) maybe plus another piece? Not really sure what Jokiharju's value would be to be totally honest. Also not sure if the Hawks would be willing to trade him for a deal revolving around Zucker, but having another RD (albeit a lower quality RD) prospect in return could be enough... Just spitballing ideas here

Yeah hes tough to value bc hes so young. But yeah I think the hawks would rather get your first or brodin as the big piece back. My ideal return would probably be 12oa and greenway or kunin but that might be too rich for fentons blood

Yeah I think all of our young forwards and 12 OA would be off the table for Jokiharju. Only way I could see us trading our first is if we move up. I could also see Eriksson Ek being available if we got a better young center in return. I could maybe see Brodin being traded but we'd need a top 4 LD coming from another trade... We don't have anybody in our system that projects to be a top 4 LD.
