Do you really think that Babcock wants to keep Willy? Not a chance, kid is ultra talented but doesn't play a team game.....he is soft and plays on the perimeter. His huge cap hit does not justify his status on the team pecking order. He isn't one of their top 5 (I might even say 7-8) most valuable players......Marner, Matthews, Freddie, Tavares and Rielly are way more valuable to them. You can argue that Hyman, Johnsson, Kapanen are all more important to the team's success. Someone needs to go.....they should have traded them before re-signing him.

Kadri's role has changed. JT plays against the top C's from other teams. Kadri was lost this year. Good player but can live without him.

Both of those guys could bring some added Dmen that we need. Gards, Hainsey and probably Zaitsev will all be gone next year. We need to clear cap space and add D men to be a threat.

The play of Marner, Kap and Johnsson has exceeded what was expected and will probably cost the Leafs about $5 million more to re-sign than what was expected before the year. Need to move some people to make this happen......they are part of the core going forward.

Unfortunately, the 3rd year for Marleau is causing some of this.......something has to give.

as for the Canes trade........before the season I would agree it is a bad trade for the Leafs......now it probably still favours Carolina.....but not by much

Pesce is the type of D the Leafs need.....RH shot, good contract, super steady on back end......great partner for Rielly.....IMO
Fox is a RHD as well......young and super skilled.....wants out and won't sign with Canes........probably more ready to play than Timmy L

Nylander.....great skill, horrible defense, waaay to expensive for a 7 goal in 54 game man.......he should score 30 every year based on talent......lacks drive and doesn't compete for pucks.....plays on the perimeter........for $4M maybe........not a cap hit of $7M..........Tavares signing means some people have to go.........who would you rather lose.......Nylander OR Kap and Johnsson.......those two combined will have about the same cap hit as Willy

Timmy L........will probably be a decent player.......probably a 4-5 Dman when it shakes out........Fox (IMO) has more offensive upside

Sparks......needs to go.....proved in the last half the year that he can't play at this level.......sloppy rebounds and always over committing and out of position.......I understand Dubas' loyalty to him....they won a championship together.......but it proved to be the wrong call letting Mac go......imagine if they had one 5-6 more games with him in net.......understands the back up role and keeps his mouth shut......two reasons why Sparks was banished

I would have loved to have added a Julien Gauthier or Foegele to the trade by I highly doubt Carolina would bite
