Werenski makes way more money than that.

Wennberg could probably return a 2nd and 5th pick, or a 2nd and Comeau. Probably not 2 picks and player though.

For a bridge deal, $5M-$5.5M is probably in line.
Look at what Jones signed for, what a steal at $5.4M.

the way Savard has been playing this past year and playoffs, he probably could return a mid to later 1st round pick. He is right side, plays physical style, and can get into it if needed. Oh, and also on team friendly contract.

Also, I think the buyout does take place on Dubi. They already have him playing only 10 minutes or so a game, and playing wing (but taking face offs) due to his lack of speed. The time is nearing for him to “retire” to save the team the cap hit, and take a player development type coaching job to get acclimated to coaching.

Bobrovsky will want more than 8M after seeing Carey Price sign to a 10.5 M contract.

Pretty sure Wennberg's value is nothing. He is getting scratched for playoffs which isn't a good sign for him

There is one thing to consider. Although he has fallen down on the depth chart, he is still the same player with the same skills he had before.
CBJ has scouted, drafted, and developed players REALLY WELL over the past 4-5 years. Hence the emergence of players like Wennberg, Nutivaara, Harrington, Kukan, Dubois, Texier, Haanikainen, etc.
The point being, other coaches and scouts know Wennberg too. His skills include his vision of the ice, speed, reliable two-way game, and excellent passing skills. He doesn’t wow people with his goal scoring and shooting skills.
My point being, other teams still know that he is a very good player, that there just other players here are even better. He has not lost any of the skills he had.
Wennberg’s best year statistically was his first full year, when he was playing top line center with the most skilled wingers. Imagine if he were to play for another team, a fresh start, with their 1st line or 2nd line wingers? This is what Jarmo will be selling.
I know that his salary/term may hinder some negotiations. Doesn’t his game sound like it would translate well to Minnesota? Or Ottawa, or Montreal?
Lots of skilled young wingers, needing a top 1 or 2 center that needs a new start somewhere else?
I think the return for Wennberg in a trade would be decent. Not overwhelming, but not a basket of pucks either.

I completely agree with you. When I build a team, I know the Jackets cannot afford him so include acquiring him as one of trades. I am sure I am not offering a sufficient return, because as you said his salary and the Jackets cap situation.
What would you want from the Sabres for Wennberg? I am thinking he could be 3rd line center (playing with Rodrigues) and one of the 4 PK forwards.
Finally, make a separate offer if Dubinsky was included? Moving both of them would help the cap situation a lot.
BTW I should mention, Torts was in the Sabre organization about 25 years ago. He was being groomed to be the head coach after Nolan but was part of the fallout when upper management thought Nolan was worth keeping and Muckler was not. So for the past 25 years, I root for whatever team he has coached. Go Jackets.

Jackets are desperate for picks...for Wennberg i would say a 2nd or 3rd and a 5th or 6th.
As for Dubinsky, I hope that he realizes the handwriting is on the wall and starts to think about retiring.
If he retires, i believe that his payroll is washed completely with no cap hit at all, this is more favorable than a buyout or paying to unload him for a cap dump.

I have a hard time valuing him in a trade with Wennberg. It almost makes the deal a wash, maybe a single pick, say 3rd or 4th coming from Sabres in return?
They are now playing Dubi about 10 minutes a game, and using him in D zone starts on the LW or RW (but taking faceoffs) over Nash or Jenner.
