Is it really a bad call to have Draisaitl and Nuge play wings? Drai/McDavid kill it together. Then if injuries erupt, these guys can slide into C if need be.

Ya because Kassian, Chaisson, Rattie, Puljujarvi down the right side is awesome! And then Reider, Khaira, Lucic down the left...so good!

Not bad but by no means ideal IMO. They are all natural Cs

And both Draisaitl and RNH had career years with prominent time as wingers. It's a transition that works better from C->W than vice-versa. A skill player is a skill player.

Trade value is there sorta; taking Zaitsev back when this team is already hamstrung for cap space is brutal, nevermind that it leaves the defence in absolute shambles. Team would be looking at buying out Koskinen and replacing him with a sub-$2M netminder, flipping Russell for as much cap savings as possible, dumping Benning in favour of Persson, keeping Gambardella in the AHL, and possibly looking at buying Sekera out in order to generate enough cap space to bring in something remotely close to a top-4 defender to slot on the right side. Even then, the only option is Myers, and he's become a skeleton of his former self.

Hey! Edmonton definitely needs wingers more then they need centers. Look at it this way, they have Chaisson playing on the second line sometimes even first if he is lucky. I think that Chaisson is a third, or forth line winger.

and who did they both play with? You know who else had a career year because they were with McDavid...Chaisson

Is it strictly because Philadelphia's done nothing noteworthy in the past decade besides waste Giroux and get sh*tkicked by the Hawks in 2010 that you can't rationalize a skilled player playing alongside one of the best in the league? Or is the expectation that players of Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins calibre must not play alongside skilled players? Is it that McDavid - the best offensive player in the league bar none - must be expected to play with guys that have never breached 40 points as opposed to actually talented NHL forwards?

It literally doesn't matter if a player is a natural center: the transition from center to wing is substantially easier than a winger playing down the middle. Edmonton put itself in a situation where it had to play a duo of those three in order to generate any offence. Kadri slotting as the #2C in this scenario lets Edmonton internally solve the need for a #1LW and #2LW without overpaying for a mediocre winger in July.

How do you justify Tavares playing with Marner, Boston's top line, Colorado's top line, Couturier playing with Giroux, or any other set of skilled forwards playing together when you religiously abide by such an ice cold take? It's ridiculous that someone can have over 10,000 posts and still not realize that skilled players CAN actually play alongside each other.

I know good players can play together you clearly are missing my point. Why would you give up your top RHD for a 2-3C when you can get a couple of wingers for him like Kapanen and Brown? Wouldn’t it make more sense to get quality and depth at F, if you are going to give up a big piece on D instead of 1 ok forward piece and a cap dump that isn’t going to help EDM defensively at all?

But please, stay on that high horse...
