Created by: CaptJosef
Team: 2019-20 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2019
Published: Apr. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Leafs trade is essentially a $4m offer sheet for Kapanen (which would be a second round pick compensation) which is then worked into a trade to free some more cap for the Leafs while giving them a decent RHD back for the shorter term plus an additional pick and good forward prospect to sweeten things.

Why Zaitsev? Gudas is better than him and only has a year left. Why add another AMac contract?

I'd like to not part with that first round pick but I am highly interested from Buffalo. I'd switch the first for a coming second or third and a young forward?

Take out the salary retention on Zaitsev and you get closer. With it, you're not getting a deal done

Why Zaitsev? Because you're getting Kapanen, for as long as you want him.

Meh, Zaitsev divides opinion. I think he's a decent defensive defender and I think that's what we could do with. He tends to play hard shifts not unlike Provorov and that comes with the 'he's rubbish' baggage. I like Gudas but I'm looking for guys with more passing ability.

I recognise that's not everyone's take but also a lot of those people are wrong halo

For the right player that could work, but it'd need to be a guy who's equally: a good prospect but also not knocking on the door this second as there's no roster spaces.

RFA signings are interesting; Laughton and Hartman are probably a bit too high but the TK contract isn't something that I expected to see. That being said, I don't think that's a bad deal just not one that I think is realistic based on what he's shown so far (ie, I don't see him getting 8 years but I wouldn't complain about that). Kapanen might be a bit too low. I'm not exactly a fan of that Buffalo trade or the Zuc signing. That's not to say Zuc is bad; I'd just rather have Jake over him.

Would you take Tage Thompson with a future second? Stick him in the minors like we should have. He also has RFA protection unlike Bailey for when their contracts expire.

I don't care if we get Kapanen, I'd rather offer-sheet him and give up picks than have to take another AMac contract just as AMac's is expiring.

not even close. Tage hasn't proven anything and Voracek is a perennial 60+ point player.

The whole premise was swapping out a late first round pick for a prospect and a slightly lower pick... The rest of the trade still being there but taking a pick at like 28 and switching it for Tage and 36 in a year.

I think in a trade for Voracek we would need Nylander plus late round picks don't really help us as we have a deep prospect pool. Honestly I think we would only trade Jake for an upgrade at D or in a package for 2 NHL players.

I can appreciate that. I'm just going off the trade that was suggested in the post.

Part of this is to free up cap elsewhere but part is to bring in a lot more speed down the wings. Zuc and Kapenen are both much quicker than Jake and I feel they are more likely to buy into Vigneault's pacey pressing approach. Essentially you get those two for the cost of Jake too.

If you are looking for defense, who needs to add to Ristolainen for Voracek trade? Bogosian may fit into the Flyers playing style a little better, but you would want a better player IMO.
Adding Voracek would be great, I am a bit worried that his contract is well beyond his most productive years, but if I wanted to make the play offs next year, adding him would certainly bring that hope a lot closer.
