This team looks like it would be a 9-10 place team this year. But this is 2 years from now? I don’t see any universe where the oilers will become competitive. Maybe figure out how lucic, russell and sekera can get syphillis and cant play.

if you can't figure out how the team will be competitive then idk what to tell you, every team's got a chance every year.

I really like the Tanev pickup. I think he would really help the oilers... but I think you'll need to offer a bit more $ and term to attract him from simply signing in WPG at that price.
For Nelson... he'd be great. But I really think NYI is easily going to resign him, and probly even give him $7M for 4-5 years. NYI has the cap space, and with their recent success, will likely try to resign all their UFA's. So that means Nelson, Lee and Eberle (especially with how he has played in the playoffs) are likely to all be resigned.
Too bad for the oilers though, cuz I agree, Nelson would be great.

I think you could realistically get Copp at that price as WPG is goign to have serious cap issues and they need to let someone go (Tanev, Copp, etc?) or else trade someone like Perreault or Kulikhov to make room under the cap to sign their RFA's and UFA's.

yeah i think WPG might have some issues resigning Hayes, Trouba, Laine, and Connor so might as well take advantage of that. I could see a scenario where the Oilers trade for Copp's RFA rights and Perreault for Gambardella and another small piece to clear cap.

You're probably right about Nelson resigning with New York. I believe in this case, I would replace him with Dzingel, Ferland, maybe Hayes or a forward like that and those guys should costs less than Nelson. However, we might not even need that if we get the 3 forwards from WPG.
