That doesnt get you Josi. And frankly doesn't get you close. He is a top 10 defenseman in the league.

seriously, Josi is UFA end of the season and the Leafs are in a Cap crunch
What value would be assigned to a contract that Josi would accept AND fit within the Leaf's cap?
The Leafs would not trade an asset like Nylander for an unsigned player who could decide to move elsewhere for more money (or just preference for another team) as a UFA

Honestly it's just a nice dream/stooped fun but it does fit with the Leafs cap problems. 4Mill for next year & then you can extend him for 8+ & he'll fit under the cap, remember Marleau & Muzzin come off (& clear 10.25Mill)

Although I think Zaitsev is worth his 4.5m cap hit, I don't think teams are going to trade for him without money coming to the Leafs.
The Leafs solve their cap problem but keeping Zaitsev and trading Nylander. Trade Nylander for picks/prospects then you're virtually cap compliant.

Let's not get silly think you can trade and extend. It rarely works like that.

True but that's no fun.
& you're right it's gonna be someone, most likely Nylander, gone for picks/prospects

Both trades are horrible. Nashville and Vancouver decline and laugh.
