Why would we want to help Toronto?

Not sure why he made the trade in 2018-19. It inflates nylanders AAV by like 4 million and still has pommer at 5.6 etc.

Then we have to sign more players. Skinner plus roster fill.

here is the 2019-20 team
Adding Nylander, Brown and Marleau gives Buffalo a really good second line
Adding Zaitsev allows Dahlin to display his offensive skills.
This may give Buffalo a play off team that could go deep into the playoffs.
So why does this not work?

Salary cap, no trade clauses, players not being good at hockey

I like the concept, I doubt Dubas and Betterall would make a deal.
IMO: Marleau + Brown = nothing
Nylander = Ristolainen
Zaitsev + 2020 3rd round pick (TOR) + 2019 5th round pick (TOR) + 2020 6th round pick (TOR) = < Asplund
It does push the cap to the limit but, next year, Bogosian and Sheary could be moved for picks at the TDL which should give cap space to sign Dahlin.
I would appreciate your comments.

No one plays more PK minutes than Zaitsev and only Morgan Reilly played more minutes than he.

This trade makes Buffalo a play off team. Marleau, Bogosian and Sheary all come off of the books next year. over $13,000,000 not counting the increase of the cap.

No it doesn't. Getting rid of Ristolainen helps. Zaitsev as a 3 rd line defense helps. The 14 ish goals from Nylander and Brown are less the Pominville.

Keep your 5th and 6th rd picks and the Sabres keep Asplund. Retain a few mil on Marleau, if he waives for Buffalo, and you're getting close...
