No choice for playoff push

Description
As long as Petey, Brock and Bo and maybe Hughes are healthy throughout the season, the Canucks are probably no longer a bottom 5 team. So I think they have to try to make the playoffs from now on. Obviously they still have to draft well. But also they need to sign good peripheral free agents, preferably younger players not with hefty contracts (avoiding guys like Panarin, Karlsson etc).

Therefore, they could use an impactful player on essentially every line. They really need help on the right side on the back end, but I'd be really hesitant to give Myers a big contract. Hopefully Stralman along with fellow countryman Edler can provide a stop-gap.

I would like to think so since he loves vancity haha, he must really like sushi and the rain

I think you have to give him more money if you want him to sign a shorter-term, which is ideal, hence 2 years

I don't agree with your premise re that they need to make the playoffs from now on so sign the free agents.

That said, aside from the Ferland signing, I don't mind the others as the term and dollars are bad. There just too many of them.

That's fair but to really benefit from a draft, you need to draft high-end talent. Those players are usually top 10 but more so top 5. Would you make the playoffs and settle with a #10-16 draft pick?

All these free agents other than stralman are 27 and younger and being given max 4-year contracts.

I'm not a huge Ferland fan, but you need players like this. He's what Jake will never be unfortunately.

Why do teams trade for 4.375m Sutter especially with no money being returned?

He's a serviceable 3rd line center on a good team, who has been relatively healthy. Guys like Bonino and Eller and making 4. But sure, the Canucks can retain some salary if that makes you feel better.
