Gadreau for Hall The deal that gets it done

Created by: Shaung
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2019
Published: Apr. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is no question that Calgary needs more size and blazing speed on their top line and Taylor Hall is just the guy to do it. Johnny goes back home and Taylor comes home. Makes sense to me. Taylor will stay healthy in Calgary.

I really like this idea, but my only issue is that hall is a UFA next offseason and while he most likely would resign in Calgary, he’s gonna be a lot more expensive than Gaudreaus current cap hit. Still a very cool idea though.

I like Gaudreau, but I, personally, would lose it if the Devils brought in another undersized player. NJ already has Bratt, Palmieri, Coleman, possibly Hughes on offense and Butcher, Carrick, and Vatanen on defense.

This is interesting if it includes a Hall extension. Can CGY afford that?

Trade seems fine and all but what’s the point? Both are phenomenal players that put up points every night. Gaudreau is younger and will not be needing a major extension any time soon, therefore you should stick with him. Gaudreau is not the Flames’ problem, it’s Mike Smith. Either invest money in whatever UFA goalies there are, or make a move for one. Don’t try fixing something that isn’t broken.

Have you been watching this post season? Mike Smith not the problem. Gaudreau however, has been invisible for Calgary in the playoffs. My point is that the flames need a top line forward with some size and grit, and Taylor has that. If the flames had Hall right now this would be a 3-1 series lead for Calgary. Gaudreau would fit in well with Hughes, two American boys side by side. It is an excellent trade for both teams.

I have been watching playoff hockey, just not much of the Flames. It’s not fair to judge Gaudreau based off 4 games in the playoffs. You’re definitely not wrong that the Flames need size and grit but a consistent goalie would probably be more helpful (.898 save percentage in 42 games played this regular season). I doubt NJ would trade Hall regardless of how well Gaudreau fits in with Jack Hughes.

Hall played 33 games this season. He wouldn’t help the flames at all this playoff series. But the biggest problem from the flames is playing the Backlund line 30+ min to counter McKinnon and yet he’s still dominating the series. Stop the hard matchups and let the guys play. Smith deserves better.
