Both trades are declined, more for kap, maybe a smidge more for Marner

To be fair Brown would be a 3rd liner on a good number of teams in the NHL, but still not worth a 2nd.

Toronto values Zaitsev higher than most of the other teams do. His cap hit isn't that bad until you add the length of the contract. I think your going to have to pay someone to take him.

Both trades accepted marner takes that and he’s happy to be a leaf. Asserting things is fun...

Why? Zaitsev and a 2nd for demelo seems about right. Pretty much getting an over pay on demelo and zaitsev for free. Think my offer was for a first to the Ottawa fans here and they jumped right on board. Zaitsev is a perfectly fine 2nd pair Dman. By the time Ottawa gets back to the cap his Contract looks good.

Been shutting down your top line all by himself. So does that mean he is good defensively or is the Bergeron line just not as good as everyone thinks?

If that were the case, there'd be absolutely zero Leafs ACGM's trading him away. You'd be shedding salary elsewhere. Don't kid yourself, it's a weakness on the Leafs and has been for years.

Zaitsev had a good season really and while hes a bit of a cash dump he still looks able to play second pair minutes. Toronto wants his money but he can help some teams.

No, they trade him away because long term it won’t fit and leafs need to shed cap. I’m perfectly fine with keeping him. I think it makes us more competitive next season. I think in the long run he is the smartest asset to move. His contract isn’t great. That makes him a target. Pretty sure they were crying for just about every leaf but marner Matthews Rielly and Tavares to get traded this year. Leafs nation is a cruel B!@tch

What a breath of fresh air lol. It gets tedious defending myself from leaf haters sometimes. It’s funny how every RHD in the league gets a position boost but Zaitsev. He’s an average 2nd pair guy who can play 20-25 minutes a night. He’s defensively reliable and does have some offensive upside depending on deployment. I mean if zaitsev were put back on the power play and put up 30-40 points this year no one would want to move him lol.

And nobody (including you!) seems to have remembered that DeMelo is on an expiring contract and will be UFA at the end of next season, which lowers his trade value immeasurably because he shows no sign of the mental illness that would be required to want to stay in Ottawa.

Oh I know he is on an expiring contract. Which comes in handy because he is only a rental for the leafs. If he had term he would be worth a 2nd. Rental on a player like him is a 4th.

The only way leafs would even think about resigning him is if he absolutely destroys next year or all of our prospects fall through. This is why ozzy is only signed to a 1 year deal as well.

Seems like every time there was a puck going in the Toronto net in game 4 there was Zaitsev on the ice. I guess since it wasn't Bergeron scoring that makes it ok?

Played the 2 on 1 very well and was doubled over after blocking a shot on the other goal. Not going to fault him on a PPG. 82 games this year of solid defending paired with the aandering gardiner for the most part and shutting down the big line for the most part is sturdy defending in my books. Zaitsev isn’t a stud RHD by any means but he isn’t a horrible player either.

He must have been on the ice for at least 4 goals against. He was a -3 and he doesn't get counted as a - when on the ice while a ppg is scored against. I agree not a horrible player, but in a cap world, ability, term, AAV, and expected future improvement all need to be factored in. If Toronto wants to get the maximum for him, they will need to keep him and trade other players. He does bring some value to Toronto, he will likely be a net negative value if you try to trade him.

Not looking for maximum value. Just moving him to a team that needs to get to the cap floor. They get a 2nd pair rhd that can kill penalties QB a power play, solid defensively and has some offensive upside.... for less than nothing..,

I guess there’s no winning if any leaf can never have a good game and only bruins have bad games.

the Bergeron line is absolutely as good as everyone thinks. If pasta didn't get hurt he would have beat marchand to 100 pts. they've done a good job against them. the big key is just keep them off the power play.

I mean, cmon. You look at this line that just dominated the best the nhl had to offer, and they go dry for a couple games and your thought is, “must be Zaitsev!” Cmon buddy, that just doesn’t make sense. They aren’t playing well right now, that happens. It’s just happened at a poor time for the bruins

Just funny that they can stay dry against the worst defencemen in the league and as you call him “trash”. This is what happens in a playoff series. You learn to target a team. I think if bruins had more offensive depth it would make it more difficult. I think the main factor was the 5 man unit. I don’t think muzzin has been great defensively but he has been very physical. The Tavares line has been solid defensively and so has zaitsev. I expect the top line to come out flying tomorrow in a very physical game. Leafs need to match the intensity. of course Zaitsev will need to play well or maybe just keep using voodoo to keep the Bergeron line off the scoresheet.
