No way the Pens should make the Calgary trade. Neal's contract is too much of a burden to take on.

Carolina trade isn't great. Pens have enough LHD as is and Fluery isn't even that good. You're also selling way too low on Rust

Kessel trade is bad too. The Avs pick will be no better than 20th overall and Jost doesn't make the team better.

#1- at least Neal has bounce back potential. he was amazing next to Malkin. im not saying hes gonna get 80 points 40 goals, but I could see him getting 20+goals, 50+ points. Johnson is completely useless, Calgary may sell low on Neal.
#2- Fleury could be a late bloomer. just look at Dumolin once he left Carolina. aside from a 2 week stretch, rust was rather poor last season and hes not worth the 3.5 million price tag with our current roaster. id move him just to shed some salary and ill take a gamble on Fleury.
#3- Jost is exactly what the pens need. a young, high potential winger whose on the verge of breaking out. I wouldn't be surprised if Jost got over 60 points next season. hes the perfect trade target in a kessel deal

Neal's contract is a bigger burden than Johnsons. Neal is a power forward type winger in his 30's who has some health issues. The league is embracing speed, he's the literal opposite of the types of players the Pens should target.

Fleury is a project at this point. The Pens need players that help them improve now, they have 2-3 years of contention left and they need to take advantage of that window.

Jost is 21 and has yet to surpass 30 points. Again, the Pens need players that can be big-time producers now. No need to give up a big asset for 2 players (one being a prospect) that are going to projects. ANy trade the Pens make with regards to trading Kessel probably won't make them better now, that's why it's pointless to trade him.

fair enough on the Neal trade. im not saying I want the pens to get him. I just rather him than jack Johnson. in an ideal world we can dump JJ without taking back a contract

I agree fleury was a project but so was Schultz and that worked out great. pens have to buy low on these high potential high risk guys.

a kessel trade probably wont make them better right now, but it'll extend their window. pens can still be a Stanley cup contender with Crosby/malkin in their late 30s if they load up on some high skill young players around them. Pittsburgh needs another Guzental and I think Jost could fill those shoes in a kessel trade.

Neal is a sniper not a power forward. He's just got a temper and plays a two way game.

He was one of my favorite penguins.
He's not scared to shoot the puck.

I think trading Neal for Horny is kind of a wash on the contract value. Neal is the better player.

The way my trade really breaks down is:

Neal for Jack Johnson
Hornqvist for Frolik

Neal's contract is worse, how is it a wash?

He makes 450K more for the same amount of time. I'd rather have Hornqvist's contract on the team.

id rather have neither, but id rather have Neal and Frolik over Hornqvist and Johnson. sometimes you gotta take on some cap to ship guys out.

Neal has a lot more upside. So it's worth it.
