I like this plan a fair bit, but giving up some needed draft picks hurts

Pens need to get younger and target next year as a rebuild year trading for prospects and picks. I think you've done some of that here.

That's a pretty bare draft cupboard, but in fairness to you, I note that you're only trading away half of the 8 missing picks.

The resulting team looks pretty strong, and an improvement over your current squad. My only comments are that like @Hockey91 I doubt that Colorado would make that trade, and why do you think you need to acquire both of the Ottawa dead contracts?

Past the 2nd round draft picks mean very little.

You are looking at a 10-15% chance that a player taken in the 3rd round becomes a career player.

Their draft picks right now look better than they have in years because they actually have a 1st round pick. Which has a roughly 50/50 chance of becoming a career NHL player.

Those second round picks are roughly 25-20% chance. They are nice to have, but way too many people put too much faith in 2nd round picks turning into the next great player.
Players like Donato and Sprong have the talent too, but there are holes in their games and they may never turn out and people in Boston and Pittsburgh know exactly what I'm talking about. They get hyped up way to much.

So that Cupboard looks better than it has in years.
