Interesting how if this was last off season, leafs fans would be irate at a Kadri-Domi deal. This offseason I’m sure it’s the habs fans that would want nothing to do with this trade.

Yes, it's true and to think the Habs traded their version of Kadri to the 'Yotes to get Domi, what was Dubas doing last summer?

I was about to verbally flip you the bird, but I think you get the gist by now. NO. NO. NO.

Kadri will get probably Toronto a middling prospect and not much more because it's clear Toronto has to move a big contract for cap purposes and wants to move Kadri because he's inconsistent and selfish.

And if Domi had another meddling dozen or so goals and about 40 point season with the Habs, like his first 3 season in the desert, Hab fans would say yes. Actually I remember last summer's Hab fans backlash and anger about the trade to land Domi. More prove some hockey fanbases are morons.

Really felt like habs got the lesser end of the deal last summer but Max had a great bounce back year and it worked out well for them.

I don’t think it makes them morons. I don’t recall a single fan or analyst thinking Habs won that trade. Hindsight will always win out tho

Agree with the first part disagree with the second. A mid level prospect for a 2C.... no.

Though I think we all agree trading Kadri and Brown for prospects and Draft picks would be the best way for the Leafs to save 6 million to sign the 3 RFA's remaining. I want Marleau to retire and join Babcock's coaching staff.

When the market knows you have to make the deal, it's pretty hard to get top dollar. I'm still not sure how Bergevin pulled off what he did with Pacioretty. Most of the time, the market just waits until you bleed out.

Or trades like this happen all the time and teams will compete with offers to land a player that may help their club and this idea that a team that needs to move cap only gets 10% of the players worth is a construct of this website from people like you.

I think there's sufficient historical evidence that both situations happen. I would guess the Pacioretty-type deals happen less often than the Karlsson- and Hoffman-type situations. I suspect with his discipline history and the fact that his only not-disappointing playoff series was in his rookie year, Kadri might fall into the latter category, a nice-to-have acquisition if the price is right.

Neither Hoffman or Karlsson we’re traded for cap reasons. I still don’t think the Karlsson deal was that bad.

It depends on what teams are able to do in ufa. Many teams looking for secondary scoring and grit. I think Toronto needs to advance so Kadri can get back and put this suspension behind him. Would be good for his value.

Careful what you wish for: if the Leafs sneak past Boston and then lose quickly in the next round (assuming Kadri doesn't shine), his reputation will take an even bigger hit.

The Karlsson trade was no doubt the best they could do, but there's not an impact player in there. There's a #1 and an early #2 (Panthers), but most of the other draft picks won't actually transfer because of the conditions (Karlsson has not yet received/accepted an extension, and nor was he traded back to the Eastern Conference). Heading into his junior year, there's a decent chance that Josh Norris will also play out his years at Michigan and become a UFA. So, in the end, the Sens will have received Tierney, DeMelo and Balcers, a low first and a second.

It's not insignificant, but nor is it an epic haul worthy of a 2-time Norris winner. Here is the trade:
Erik Karlsson and Francis Perron (who's a decent young prospect) to the Sharks for:

Chris Tierney, Rudolfs Balcers, Josh Norris and Dylan Demelo
Sharks #1 pick in 2020 (conditional first round pick (2019 if Sharks fail to qualify for 2019 playoffs, else 2020))
2019 second round pick (more favorable of Panthers, Sharks picks)

UNLIKELY:
2021 conditional pick (if Sharks sign Karlsson to a contract extension, first round if Sharks advance to 2019 Stanley Cup Finals, else second round)
conditional first round pick (if Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster (reserve list) during the 2018-19 season) (?-?) on 2018-09-13

Sens retain Norris’s rights till after he graduates. He still may choose to not sign.

If Kadri comes back it will be his composure and not his skills in question.

It's the dumbest clause in the CBA if a kid graduates from an NCAA program that he can then become a UFA, so I am not sure why Norris's rights would stay with the Sens.
