I wouldn't be a fan of that Rust trade and I dont think Ottawa takes it. The Maatta deal has some logic but just a 3rd might not be enough, since that condition is quite unlikely.

I don't see the Sens taking that deal when PIT sent them Gustavsson already in the Brassard deal.

attempt failed, somewhat close but still off. The pick for Maatta should be a 2nd, no condition attached. Pittsburgh isn't trading a 4th and jarry just to get rid of Johnson.

Gustavsson is still only 20 and didn’t have great numbers in the AHL this year. Jarry is basically NHL ready. Assuming the Sens don’t bring back Nilsson, they’d probably run with an Anderson-Jarry pairing and let Gustavsson continue to develop in the AHL. Anderson is a UFA after next season, so maybe by that point Gustavsson would be ready to come up and the Sens could have a Jarry-Gustavsson tandem.

I just don’t think Maatta’s value is that high. He’s getting paid over 4 million for four more years and he’s coming off another year where he missed time due to injury. He hasn’t looked the same since returning from injury and he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. He’s also incredibly slow. You’re not really selling high on him here, you’re just trying to get what you can for him and find a replacement

You make a fair point, but there are also plenty of goaltenders available in free agency, either starters or backups. They could easily go for someone like Cam Talbot or Brian Elliott to buy Gustavsson some time to develop. It's not an unreasonable trade, I just personally think the Sens would have better options.
