If not trade Zaitsev and or Kadri. Simple grin Im counting on Marleau retiring because he is just a 4th liner playing top-9 minutes.. I think he is going to "retire" and not play next year. Makes sense for him and for the Leafs. I couldve gone the "orpik" way but that is at this point really unrealistic.

You're right a retired Marleau solves a lot of cap problems for the Leafs. I think he is retiring also. Liljegren? I think he stays a Marlie with Rosen playing LHD and Dermot continuing on the right side.
Engall really plays the wing, with Petan a centre. Gauthier has looked good this playoffs along with Ennis.

I see Liljegren being ready. After the injury in winter he was getting better a lot faster than before. He put this swagger to his game and he has been really great defensively and offensively. I think he is ready but we would see about that. Nothing is sure at this point but Im counting with him. He would surprise many with his game. Engvall put his game on another level as C. He is playing better at C and adds mobility with puck skill to the size of his which is upgrade over Gauthier imo. Both are good options. Petan-Goat/Engvall-Moore is gonna be 4th line imo. Its perfect 4th line for Leafs. Yeah I can see Dermott playing right side but imo he is more comfortable on left. Mostly I just wanted Dermott-Zaitsev pairing as it is great option on back end if Liljegren plays with Muzzin which would be logical and wise. Someone experienced and steady to him is perfect match imo.

Turkulainen still ? Now im really curious about the kid........

even if Marleau really retires...i would still push Kadri for some top RHD ( with 2020 1st added from TML side )

Marleau was over 35 when he signed so doesn't he still cost his cap hit if he retires? So even if the Leafs trade him to retire, no team is going to take an over $6 million cap hit for a 2nd. And don't say the LTIR, as far as I've heard he's still in great shape and there has to be an actual reason to fail your physical, insurance and the league investigates that sh!+.

Arizona took Datsyuks contract (6.3mil cap hit and like 1mil dollars in real money which is similar case with Patty) for moving up 6 or so spots in draft.. NJ would do it im sure. If he retires after trade NJ keeps his cap hit whole but only pays him 1.2 or so. There is zero problems with trading Marleau.

Alright sounds plausible, doubt it's NJ though because they'll probably add this year to try and give Hall incentive to resign but some team with tons of cap and little hope may do it. Still got to hope he's ready to retire though because I doubt he moves otherwise. Be an interesting offseason for the Leafs to say the least.

He might and he might not. Im not counting with him being a Leaf next year but as much as he may retire he might not. Would be interesting to see what Leafs pull out. Should be interesting. So many options right now.

Going from 21 to 15 and getting to take chychrun is a bigger deal than a late second. There are many problems with trading Marleau

Arizona paid nothing of Datysuk's salary only got the 7 million dollar cap hit. Because he went to the KHL with permission some one had to eat the cap hit but in reality pay him zero dollars.

Not so for Marleau, if he retires there is only a 6.25 million dollar cap hit, but if traded and bought out there is 833k combined for 2 years, 400k in 19/20 & 433k in 20/21, in real money and one year of a 6.25 million dollar cap hit.

I guess my question is why would he retire? San Jose, the team he played for all his career, offered a 2 year contract and Toronto offered a 3 year contract. He could have not uprooted his family and stayed in San Jose for the same deal that you want him to do now. Living closer to home and a 3rd year, were the reasons he signed in Toronto. Now fans want him to walk away from 4.25 million because he is a cap issue for the team. If this turns out badly for Maple Leafs, which if not handled properly, could turn a lot of future free agents away from signing in Toronto, for the way them themselves might get treated by fans and orginization
