Without moving Marleau who is obviously slow and useless now

Created by: SammyT_51
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 22, 2019
Published: Apr. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Do you think that he will play next year? Because from TDL to this day hes been a 4th liner.. he sure not plays next year.. he doesnt have the only thing he had which made him efficient and that was speed.. I doubt he would play next year. Makes no sense for him and for the team. But this team is for that purpose of looking at options with Marleau playing which again I doubt he would..

The debate over "zaitsev being bad" has died. He is good and he has value. If Marleau is not playing next year and his contract is gone he stays and Im happy with that.

Gotta pay him and take his hit even if he doesnt play though... Also Pens arent giving McCann for a 3rd, I dunno what his price is as i doubt he will be moved. But its not a 3rd.

His contract can be traded easily. Marleau and 2nd to team that needs cheap cap hit and they would take it and other team would have the cap hit. Easy. But its all about him and fact if he is selfish or not. He might even get orpiked (was done before and would be done again, investigation in NHL sucks and all people know it) so yeah.. he can be traded if he decides to "retire".. McCanns value is likely between 3rd or 2nd..

Pens value McCann like leafs value Kapanen. Which is not far off. McCann is a young versatile forward. He played all three forward positions can play on PK and PP. he skates really well has a good shot and good hockey awareness he is young and cheap. It will take a massive overpayment to get him from the Pens. McCanns upside is not as high as Kaps but he can play center also.

zaitsev has no value at best. He is not a bad nhl d man but he is over paid by 2 million and the length of the contract hurts to.

Wtf you talking about. He has not been a 4th liner at all. He's been a 3rd liner on a very deep forward group. Plus he still scored 16goals this season, thats not useless. I know its not worth 6.25mil but he defidnedly hasn't hit his rockbottom as a hockey player so I doubt he'll retire.

Marleau is still one of the faster forwards even if he's "slower" than a couple years ago. He ran down Marchand yesterday despite starting about 20 feet further away. He's got the speed and decent skill, hust overpaid.

First trade could happen, second is a Leafs fan's pipe dream, third is fair but I doubt the Preds are the right dance partner and the last one I can't see the Pens letting go of a cheap 22 year old who showed promise since being acquired for a draft pick.

Since Marleau has full say in where he plays, I'd have to imagine that the only team he waives for would be San Jose. In such a situation, Leafs would probably have to retain 50% of his contract (which I believe is the max retain allowed). So, in that case, the Leafs would save over $3 million, which should be enough in itself to resign Johnsson or Kapanen. Considering the guy is all about his iron man streak, I don't think he'd take to kindly to being benched. So, either the Leafs play him, or find a way to make him happy and waive his NMC.
