Two bad contracts

Created by: Meloche
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 22, 2019
Published: Apr. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As Ottawa dont want to spend any extra money on the cap, I guess that saving more than 2,5M$ could be something good for them. And that 2,5M$ savings would cost a 2nd pick

It's a good trade. Variations of this have been doing the rounds for a while. Ryan would actually be a useful addition for the Habs, so they would probably do it straight up.

Difference is Ryan was producing steadily in the NHL while Alzner was in the AHL. Absolutely no way they do that trade. The second and possibly more would have to be paid to OTT. Not only is Ryan better, OTT will have trouble reaching the cap floor next season so theres little incentive to trade their biggest contract.

I'll agree with you you that the Sens don't like trade for the reason you mentioned. But the Sens will have no trouble reaching the floor, either through LTIRs or by acquiring moderate good NHLer who have to dumped by cap strapped teams.

Trouble was probably the wrong word to use. But as of right now they are not close to the cap floor. I dont think that they will have problems taking bad contracts/slightly overpaid players like you said.
