I don't think you can keep dividing contracts beyond the 50% retained. Otherwise you'd have whole syndicates of teams passing players around.

Player can be retained twice, each team can retain up to 50% of what they owe the player

Oilers decline. I think Lucic would look good with the Habs. Problem is, would you guys prefer him at 3M or at 1.5M? At 3, you can take him and we'll give you a 2nd. But if you get a third team involved, you can have him for 1.5
