Why do they move down in the draft (the #1 thing Yzerman is known for doing well as a GM) to shed a contract they have plenty of room for??

You're joking right? Since when do rebuilding teams shed picks to move bad contracts. We can retain on Helm and not give up a bunch of picks that we can't afford to shed.
