TOR trade and free agent wingers

Created by: Dwight_Schrute
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2019
Published: Apr. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leaves the Oilers with 3 lines they are comfortable having on the ice against any opposition and a 4th line that could contribute a fair amount in sheltered minutes.

Maroon has history producing with McDavid and is liked in the room, Kapanen gives McDavid a legit goal scorer on his wing with a ton of speed to keep up on odd man rushes.

Frees up Draisaitl to center his own line, given two very good offensive wingers like Nuge and Dzingle they could absolutely feast on the second pairing D that they would face every night.

On an emotional level, I hate Kadri. But he has played a very, very good, third C role for the leafs for the last couple years and has chipped in a fair amount of offense with less than fantastic winger help. Kassian and Kadri together would not be fun at all to play against.

Blueline is scary, but Larsson regressed last year I dont mind shipping him off. Nurse took another huge step next year, if he continues to grow he could become the #1D we thought he may be on his draft day, even if he plateaus he is a solid top pair guy. The hope would be for Klefbom to bounce back and Benning to stay steady, alot of fans give Benning hell but he has managed to produce better numbers at both ends of the ice than people realize, and he does it for cheap as a RHD, I'll take it in todays NHL.

Sekera and Russell are overpaid but as a third pairing there is nothing wrong with them.

Finally what I like most about the lineup here as a whole is the amount of flexibility. Draisaitl can play any forward position in your top 6, Dzingle plays any forward position in your top 9. Kadri can move up to top 6, Maroon into bottom 6. The fourth line could end up producing like a 2nd/3rd line, Nuge can move all throughout the top 9, as can Kapanen. Colin Wilson is a good fit for the Oilers because he is like Kassian and can take on any role on any line and not be out of place.

Obviously like any armchair team on this site this is a pipe dream but I really like the composition of this Oiler squad.

I actually like that trade for the Leafs. I'd hate to give up Kapanen but it makes total sense if you get Pulju back, and then play Nylander at C. I might steal that trade idea for an armchair gm of my own

Kadri, alone, brings a 1st, 4th and a prospect believe it or not.

Based on what evidence? If you look it up you will find that I was not misinformed on kadri's value. Another way is to look at comparables. Take the Kevin Hayes deal at the deadline for example.

That was a deadline deal for one, where values are sometimes skewed. And the first is fairly late, and the "prospect" was Brendan Lemieux, in that case youre right. I thought you meant you want like the 8th overall pick and Yamamoto from the oilers in which case we would have had ourselves an internet fight lol
CD282 and oilnate liked this.

it's a decent team but I don't like 3.5M Wilson for 3rd line winger should get cheaper younger guy to do same job then Benson and Yamamoto on 4th line role they don't belong their for different reasons. Benson if he isn't getting top 9 minutes 14 minutes a night he should be in AHL, Yamamoto had awful year with injuries he need another season in AHL.

I'm huge fan of Jones, but I think Klefbom still plays top pairing over Nurse

My vision for what this team would be like would see that 4th line getting a lot of minutes with offensive zone starts. They would play a ton and it wouldnt be the traditional fourth line role you are thinking of. That said I would be fine with sending them back down, keeping Brodziak and calling up Cave to round out the 4th line too.

To add, I signed Wilson to so much because I didnt want the "youll never get him that cheap" comments, but I do like having a veteran there so that Benson/Yamo/Marody arent relied on the way we relied on young players this year that werent ready for the role. Starting a vet there and having the young guys on the roster gives us the safety of possible having a young guy ready to take off and a real good vet for the 4th line, or we send the young guys down or keep them in a smaller role and have the vet play a role hes been playing for years on the 3rd.

That would be a ridiculous overpay for two third line players. Toronto cant pay Kapenen and seem to believe they are the prospect whisperers, so Puljujarvi should offer them a nice alternative to losing Kapanen for money problems.

Lucic has a NMC and we all know no player in the league wants to openly play for Ottawa.

Like I said. Lucic has openly said he will waive his NMC to go anywhere, he’s done being the whipping boy

Don't see Lucic lift his NMC for Ottawa.

Do you have a source for that? Makes things a hell of a lot easier for Edmonton if so.

My point was that Toronto wouldn't trade Kadri and Kapanen together for that package. My trade would be only Kadri and Brown and a draft pick for Larsson and nothing else.

Rishaug and a few other reporters tweeted it out last off-season. Lucic is a proud man. Doesn’t like being the whipping boy in a fishbowl like Edmonton. His agent said he wouldn’t accept waivers but if they could work out a trade he would be willing to go pretty much anywhere that’s not Vancouver.

Hmm. That also means they've probably investigated the possibility with no takers too, if that's from last season. Not sure if they dangled this year's 1st, but maybe they did and it wasn't enough.

It was last year when they weren’t trying to pay someone to take him. They wanted something in return. If they try to pay to get rid of him they may have more success. I honestly see a fit in swapping firsts with Ottawa and adding a second or third on top, they move wayyyy up and get another pick, he has a larger cap hit than actual salary for the rest of his contract so he’s more appealing to teams with cap space
