BUF and PHI What would it take to get 8 or 11 pick

Created by: PuckLuck_77

Published: Apr. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Honestly asking as a Kings fan what the Sabres or Flyers would be looking for in exchange for their first round picks in this year's draft. Untouchables are Kopitar, Doughty, Iafallo, Grundstrom, Kempe (maybe), #5 OA, Toronto's 1st round, Kupari, Vilardi, Anderson-Dolan.

Anything else is free game. Is there a deal that could be made?

True, only thing he didn't list is Clague, and maybe Toffoli has some value

Correct, thanks for the catch. I'm at work with my mind on other things. I'll edit it.

Not necessarily true. I didn't list Toffoli, Martinez, Clague, Quick, Carter, pick 33, Akil Thomas, Roy, Walker. Plenty of value still left. I'm just looking at what the Kings would likely do their best to keep vs. what could be something they'd look at moving if the price was right.

I never said that Iafallo or Kempe were worth more than the pick. I believe they are players the Kings will attempt to build a core with, outside of Kopi, Brown and Doughty. I asked if there were other players not listed that would interest the Sabers or Philly. If there aren't, then just say no. It's that simple. In the end, I'm simply curious what the needs of the Sabers/Philly are and what the Kings have that could fill those needs that they'd be realistically willing to part with.

Thing is that nothing you just listed is valuable enough for either pick.

For the Flyers I could see Toffoli and your 2020 1st for #11 and a 2020 3rd. Your 1st would have to be unprotected.

First of all, thanks for responding in a calm and sensible manner. It's a breath of fresh air, and nice to have someone to have a discussion with.

For a #11 pick, I don't think there's any way that the Kings could be expected to leave that pick unprotected from the lottery. Especially because Toffoli would slot straight into the top-6 already and fits right into the age group of the Flyers at just barely 26. Protected, with the pick being moved to 2021 if the Kings win the lottery, is something I could see, though.

But he wouldn’t slot into our top 6. He would be our 3RW. Konecny and Voracek are our top 2. Imo, Toffoli holds little value as he has an expiring contract and had a horrendous year.

Then apparently nothing, the most interesting pieces you recorded in untouchables, Toffoli and Martinez might have been interesting, but they're not worth #7.

Okay. Either way, I doubt the Kings, who aren't expecting to do so hot next year, leave their 1st unprotected in a year that is expected to be the next deepest draft behind McDavid's.

Out of curiosity, what do the Flyers need for next year? Are they looking to contend or are they going to build for one more year and let Carter Hart develop just a bit more?

That's fine. I was just trying to see what the Flyers and Buffalo were interested in. If there isn't a deal to be made, no big deal. The Kings are in a tough spot, and it's going to take some creativity to get them out of it, so I was just looking at it from a different angle.

exactly

Toffoli holds little value rn and it would take a lot more than just Toffoli to reel in a 7th or 11th overall pick in a stacked draft...the conversation probably starts with Kopitar but given his age and stats last season id be hesitant to make the move given the age of the core players of Buffalo. by the time Dahlin and Eichel are like 25 or 26 and Sabres are a real contender Kopitar will be a ways away from his prime

Kings would be smart though to trade him to a current contender now for all they can get before his value decreases even more

It’s go time in Philly. We need a top 4 veteran D man (I don’t think Martinez is good enough for what we are looking for) and a 2C.

Good for you guys, it's been a while since you've really been there. As far as Marty goes, I wouldn't underestimate him. The guy plays in all situations, can QB a PP #2 unit, blocks an ungodly amount of shots, and comes up in clutch situations. He'd be a great addition to any top-4 in the league. I think even Tampa was asking about him before the deadline, and their blueline is stacked.

As far as 2C goes, could we interest you in a Jeff Carter homecoming? wink He had a terrible year this year, but I'm really hoping that it was just due to rehabilitation from his tendon injury the year before. Absolutely love what he grew into on the Kings, and I'm hoping he doesn't end his career on a really down note.

There is literally not 1 asset on the LA Kong’s that I would trade #7 for. Your best players are old and on massive contracts that don’t fit the BUF timeline.
