Only 1year, I'm ok with this. Poehling will have to earn his spot on the roster.

I agree on both counts, but not in relation to each other. Sticking Out Tongue
If Poehling and Thompson compete for the same spot, that's not okay. Top 9 for Poehling or the AHL. 4th line for Thompson or the press box.

And who do you take out of the center line in your top9? Domi with 72 pts? Danault being one of the best 2 way center we had since plek top seasons ? Or kotkaniemi with all the incredible potential?

He can compete for a C spot in the top 9. Domi and Kotkaniemi are hardly locks at C. Personally, I'd prefer Domi be bumped to the wing and let Kotkaniemi continue to develop as a C, while bringing Poehling right along behind him. Domi more or less got the job done, but he doesn't particularly excel at the position. If he can maintain that level of production with someone else centering him, that would be ideal.

I think this makes sense. Only one year and less expensive then his previous contract (He signed 2Yrs/1,65M with Ottawa). Thompson stated many times that him and his wife absolutely love the city of Montreal and he seems to get along well with other players like Tatar and Domi so that makes him a motivated player.

It also makes sense in terms of the lineup because it takes out Deslauriers or Peca off the top-12 assuming we sign Lekhonen and Weal.

That's how I think they see it AS OF TODAY (there migh be changes during summer) :

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin - Domi - Shaw
Lehkonen - Kotkaniemi - Byron
Weal - Thompson - Armia

Scratches : Deslauriers, Peca.

Another factor might be that MB and CJ really disliked how it went with the 4th line last year. (Remember, we saw guys like Agostino, Chaput, De La Rose, Deslauriers, Hudon, Peca, Scherbak and Weise)

You would want to give one of our top prospects 4th line time (8-10 minutes a night?)

Domi for sure. Or he can be seasoned in the AHL. Nothing wrong with that

If you watched Domi play C this year, no it's not an option. He's a centre.

Thomson is a great signing for Danault! He has someone to share the defensive workload! Great on the PK also, You get another center who can win draw in our zone.

- perfect for the fourth line... I rather have him centering the fourth than letting Poelhing suffer there.... I rather see him excel in the AHL wiht Suzuki... give Bouchard a winning team for once. It's good for the development of a player to be in a winning environment. It's easier to start in the NHL if you have a lot of confidence.

Positionally he was sound at center but he struggled in the faceoff dot which really showed on the PP and 3 on 3.

Because it's true? What job as a center do you think he excels at? Faceoffs? Backchecking? Covering the slot? Supporting the defense?
Domi did well this year to turn himself around and start producing, but he might have been able to do that from the wing as well. I'd like to find out.
Otherwise, he has to show improvement in those areas. He's only 24, so it's possible, but that puts him 5 years behind Kotkaniemi in terms of development at the position, and Kotkaniemi is already equal or better in some of those areas.

good depth signature. So that's mean that the kids might all debut in ahl, wich is not a bad thing. If they can groom them like red wings or hawks were doing this could help to bolster our future.

Thompson is a real good faceoff man ... a bigger Jeff Halpern !!

Then we send Poehling down. It's not that hard. Give him top time in the AHL is better than 4th line time in the NHL

He's 34 and signed for 1 Million, is he suppose to have more upside than that?

He's a 4th line PKing center. He's not supposed to be fast. Hard to be a plus when you aren't given any offensive minutes.
