No Nylander Plz - This is the direction I hope were going

Team: 2019-20 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2019
Published: Apr. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know the ins and outs of offer sheets and what not so I won't try.

I'd love to see us go for Marner if thats plausible. Some larger contracts coming off the books too

What I do know is there is nothing that shows me we should make a play for Nylander with his contract.

I think we trade Vatanen, trade Schneider, recoup a roster defenseman and/or decent picks (maybe Davies and Smith come in can play from the start)..Greene comes off, maybe sign him to much smaller deal next year, great for the locker room, in 3rd pair minutes can still play. Seen a couple scenarios schneider goes back to van, not sure the price but could make sense. Maybe we dont trade this year, but we will need that money off the books with upcoming contracts

6 may be too much for Eberle, about a week ago I would've said 4.5, but he gets it done when it matters, and this postseason is just adding $ to the contract (maybe zucc for same moneyish)...I think eberle gets 6 or more unfortunately.

I also dont care what anyone says, Drew Stafford is an important piece to this team, he drives culture, he drives practice, you need these guys and for 800K its a no brainer

And before anyone freaks out make the lines whatever you want, I think panarin hughes bratt would be very exciting so I left that.. Maybe eberle hall hischier, palmieri can play a tougher game, I'm not saying hes a third liner, but he certainly could succeed there

Other people I'd be interested in adding - Stralman, Zucc (maybe instead of eberle), chiarot, gardiner (must move sami contract), Hagelin, Nosek, Mr. Game 7

Let me know what you think, I see a lot of rehashed thoughts (nylander kapanen, tampa contracts...), I don't think these are necessary with the cap we have there's options to make smart UFA pickups and trades, overpaying only matters if you run out of money or you take on a player who doesn't get it done (lucic). To me, these are all justifiable contracts

Some good thoughts for sure, but:

-You're probably going to have to pay significantly to get someone to take Schneider. He's got a NTC, is owed $18 million more, and hasn't had a good season since 15/16. A lot of that has to do with injuries, but you're probably better off crossing your fingers and praying for at least a small bounce back.
-Marner isn't moving. I know that it's the fun thing to try to do, but there's no chance the Leafs let him go. Even with an offer sheet, it's just not going to happen.
-You shouldn't have much trouble getting a Stralman/Eberle/Zucc's type guy. Eberle will likely end up back on long Island, but the other two shouldn't be an issue.
-As a Ducks fan, I'm curious to see what you can get for 1 year of Vatanen. He's coming off of a meh season, but I always loved him on the PP. (Not saying the Ducks should try to re-acquire).
-Panarin is going to be awfully tough to attract to New Jersey, especially when the other options are likely playing at MSG, or rocking out in Florida.

Let's say the Devisl can't attract top UFAs. Would you take Nylander at 7m cap hit, but 4.9m in actual salary for let's say a 3rd pick. Leafs need cap, and Nylander certainly can be better than he was this year.

I agree on Marner unfortunately

Schneider actually started to get it back tg, I've never been a huge fan due to the untimeliness of some of the goals he gives up, but I expect him to be strong next year, could become a more valuable asset, i think

As far as eberle i think the only hope is hall...

Now Panarin is interesting because I think its a very overlooked destination.. NJ has some of the best beaches in the country, Many of the players live in Hoboken which is an awesome place to live, and is 20 mins from NYC, he essentially gets the best of both worlds (to an extent). I think Pru is a great arena, I'm not going to act like its MSG...but I think we're an interesting dark horse in the panarin race, also his potential linemates are more intriguing I think than NYR (Hall Bratt Hischier Hughes and Zucc/Eberle/someone else), he'd have a nice setup in FLA though with Barkov and co. He also looks elated in CBJ right now, I wouldn't rule it out yet.

Nothing I've seen from Nylander makes me want to take him, I'm sure he will be better but thats a tough contract. You look at guys like mackinnon and pasta, i get they're supremely team friendly contracts, hall gets 6 and won MVP, I don't think Nylanders near that class, and if I'm giving up assets for someone in that upper payscale, Id prefer an option with higher upside or a lower floor..
