Clearing out the D

Created by: Ottawasean
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2019
Published: Apr. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Giving Dermott his make or break chance - putting him on right side of Muzzin who can help him grow into a Gardiner or better.
Gamble on Sandin - Lilijegren, with Hainsey back as a bench / depth D (if that interests him).

Give up Kadri (previous 30 goal guy) and Zaitsev for Eakins and a draft pick - I know this is a losing trade on value but it frees cap for Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson.

I really wanted to put Myers into the Leafs but his desire to go south and likely bidding war makes that nearly impossible with the Leafs having 3 x $11M players. Additionally, Leafs need room in the next year for Reilly resigning.

Leaving cap room could let the Leafs add an additional backup and/or rental d near the deadline.

Where did I go wrong?

Need more for Pecse? Would Carolina prefer to trade Faulk or Hamilton?

LVK has more cap issues that TOR. They can't possible do this trade even if they wanted to.

So you've traded 4 NHLers for 2 NHLers, so it really doesn't make the Leafs better. And that Carolina trade isn't happening. Just trade Nylander for non NHL cap, you've just got one forward to replace.
