I get what you are saying...a top scorer like Tarasenko requires a top player, which Provorov is definitely, but the Blues will need to replace Pietrangelo on the right side. Dunn and Edmunson have the left side locked down and Bouwmeester gives them the third line vet. If the Blues want to move Edmunson with Tarasenko, I would agree with you that Provorov would then be in play.

Why does everyone assume Petro will be gone?

No way. Ghost is terrible defensively. Ghost is top 4 D, Trouba is #1 D.

Trouba isn't number one on his own team. He's extremely good, but not quite a number 1. In time, maybe though. Ghost will never be a number one.

The entire Ghost is terrible defensively is a bit overstated. Not to mention wasn’t this past season Troubas first with 50 pts?

Ghosts better offensively
Trouba defensively.
Contract......huge edge to Ghost.

It’s closer than you think

Agreed. Trouba is a very good #2 and Ghost a 3/4.
Provorov and Trouba would be awesome

I worry more about pairings than number 1,2,etc per say

Provorov/Trouba
Sanheim/Myers
Morin/ Gudas

Gudas and Myers interchangeable If play dictates

Gudas doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. He doesn't score, but he sure plays good physical defense.

I know its close but not close enough. Ristolainen and Ghost have similar value. Risto plays slightly better defence but Ghost's contract makes up for that. BUF offers for Trouba including vesalainen usually have a 2nd and a prospect or a 1st going along with them

To makeup for the gap you have to pay. The price for that gap will at least be a 2nd, maybe even a 1st.

Trouba
Vesalainen

Vesalainen is our best forward prospect since Connor. No way. That is so bad. Remove vesalainen and we have a deal, though the jets don’t want ghost. We would be asking for Myers and the 1st or myers, a 2nd and a roster player

I honestly would have sanheim over ghost

My offer matches the Buffalo offer you used as an example to the T.

Ghost~Risto
2nd_~2nd
Allison~Prospect

The issue is you overvalue Risto and undervalue Ghost

Including Veslainen. Your words not mine. Like I said I matched Buffalos’ offer for Trouba and Veslainen as described above.

My thinking is Philly's top two lines would be set if the above happened. I think Lehkonen is a strong third line player right now with potential to become a second liner. These trades accomplish three things: Ensures the top two lines are lethal. Strengthens the third line. And finally, takes an asset (Ghost) and flips it for third line help and a potential future contributor(s) (1st and 3rd picks). I look at it as acquiring current assets, acquiring future assets, and also wisely using a current over-abundance of assets to improve over the long-term. You may disagree with the moves, but that is my response you your legitimate question.

I see your point, and it makes a lot of sense, but the first rounder ensures that we are still pushing hexys way and still pushing "oh we will be ready in 3 years" when that prospect is ready, we have moved on from that and are only going to trade for pieces that will help us now, not future assets. I still see your point tho.
