Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Backes, David
  2. Carlo, Brandon [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I realize it's a short-sighted move for the Bruins...and maybe Carlo is so good already that this trade isn't needed. Sadly, I haven't been able to watch the Bruins in the playoffs... But, IF the Bruins want to go all-in next season and capitalize on the closing windows of their aging core...maybe they would consider a move like this.
BOS
  1. Spurgeon, Jared ($2,550,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Wild get long-term Spurgeon replacement and potentially one of the best shut-down D pairings in the NHL for years to come in Carlo and Brodin.
2.
MIN
  1. Kassian, Zack
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
  3. 2019 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Basic breakdown: Zucker and #12 for #8, Belpidio and taking Kassian's contract for Puljujarvi.
EDM
  1. Belpedio, Louis
  2. Zucker, Jason
  3. 2019 1st round pick (MIN)
3.
MIN
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Devils represent highest and best offer for Staal. Fenton was a moron for resigning him!

Kassian is a positive in Edmonton. We wont be paying anyone to take his contract. Might be something to a swap of firsts and Jesse for Zucker and you take Manning and or Brodziak.

You could get so much more for Spurgeon

Not sure moving up 4 spots is worth a top 6 forward that's solid both ways. The difference between 8 and 12 this year isn't that big. & with taking Kassian's contract I think you're overpaying quite a bit.

& I know for a fact you're highly overpaying for Carlo by retaining on Spurgeon AND taking Backes' contract. Carlo isn't that good. & his ceiling doesn't project to be that high. He got beat over and over again by Toronto's speed going wide, on him. Think you're better off maximizing your asset in Spurgeon elsewhere

Kassian isn’t a cap dump. He might be on our top line next year. Take out Kassian and include Manning. You can bury him in the minors for a cap hit of around a million.

Bruins pass easily. Backes and a 3rd or 2nd for a bag of pucks is about what the Bruins would consider. Carlo should be untouchable given his performances this year and his upside. He's probably been better this year than Spurgeon honestly imo.

I wonder why Ryminister_27 writes that Carlo is worse than Spurgeon and his ceiling is not so high. Someone here is clearly lying. Huh?

Carlo's already passed what his initial ceiling was, his ceiling now is as an elite shutdown defenseman who can jump up in the rush because of his excellent skating. He didn't get beat very much at all against Toronto and was arguably the Bruins best defenseman like he's probably been all year. in fact he had to cover up for Krug on a lot of occasions so you clearly watched like 5 highlights and try to pass it off like you know what went on the entire series. Carlo was one of the bright spots for the Bruins.

Lol. I was at every game in Toronto.. Carlo isn't that good of a defender. He'll be a future #3 d-man, his skating isn't the best and needs work. He got blew right by many times against Toronto. He will most certainly never be an "elite shutdown defender". Lol.

I strongly disagree. If you start from the (entirely sound) premise that Minnesota needs to get someone into the pipeline to replace Koivu and Staal, then you're hoping for one of the second-tier top 4 after Hughes (i.e., Cozens, Dach, Turcotte and Zegras), and the last one of those remaining on the board is certain to go to Anaheim (who need a replacement for Kesler and eventually Getzlaf), so moving up ahead of the once-mighty Ducks is a BIG difference. You may quibble about the ancillary items in this exchange, but the underlying strategic reasoning is entirely sound.

Oilers aren’t willing to give up on puljujarvi quite yet. Only way I see it happening is if they get rid of a huge contract like Lucic. Kassian is still liked in Edmonton and can play any roll he’s given whether it’s 4th Line, or on McDavids wing. No way that trade happens

Ranger fan here. If you'd trade Backes and a 2nd for a bag of pucks, how about Backes and a 2nd for Jimmy Vesey.
And yes, you can have the pucks too.

lets not go crazy about carlo, hes a nice second pair defensive defenseman. He isn't the second coming of chris pronger or something. Spurgeon is older and has 2 years left until ufa. it does get backes gone which is a big deal for this team. I dont think they do it honestly but its a lot closer a deal than people are making it out to be. Carlo had what 9 points this season and spurgeon 40ish.

Conditional on whether or not Vesey resigns with the Bruins after the season. If he does, you can keep the bag.

By the, if Jimmy Vesey is reading this (and admit it, Jimmy, you know you are), I apologize. I realize you have to be elite in your field to get to where you are, and I can't even skate. But we're fans, this is what we do.

His skating is his best asset lmao. He moves great for someone his size. He got beat a couple times but you're not an astute fan. What you're seeing is that Krug gets beat 3-4 times a game but Carlo comes over and stuffs the Forward bailing Krug out and then Carlo lets 1 guy by and Krug is nowhere to be found lmao. Ask any Bruins fan, Carlo carries that pair Defensively.
