Mtl & Jets trades are way off.
Florida & Chi trades look good.
Riemer is a costly guess.
Not bad..-~

lol trading Manning but retaining around the same amount you'd save by just burying him.. and if top 10 pick is leaving with Lucic and that's the package coming back there's no retention

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Habs fans are not going to agree with you there...

Leafs pass easily. You want them to give Edmonton a guy that would play on their top line (not calling him a top line player, he's a middle six but on this team he's their best RW by far) and all they get back is a guy that barely plays ECHL time and a 3rd? & the excuse of Toronto's cap situation is a joke for that. Brown is a cost effective winger that plays up and down the line up, kills penalties, and plays physical. At $2.1M for 1 year then he's a RFA, he gets more back than that.

Comeon' now.

Me being the pro-active Habs AGM, would do that trade in a heartbeat. Even if as mentioned above, the retention of Manning was taken off.

That retention on Lucic is key to the deal though.

There are examples of as good or better wingers getting traded for 3rd rounders, like Vatrano or maybe Martinook for instance. Brown is nothing too special really. I don't see him being worth above either low 2nd or prospect and a 3rd.

... & look how those players turned out. Vatrano had a 20 goal season and Martinook had 15, so if that's Brown's production without McDavid, with him he easily gets 30 goals and you've just given away a guy that can score 30 goals for nothing.

The fact that McDavid is on the other team is not a factor when considering Brown's trade value. Vatrano scored 24 goals, Martinook 15 without McDavid. Brown scored 8. Neither of these players had any better team mates to play around compared to Brown - hence they work as a comparison.

Considering Brown's performance with the fact that TOR is more or less in a cap hell, trading him for a 2nd would be a freaking miracle.

The fact that Brown would play with McDavid certainly impacts his value because he has a much better chance at scoring more points, which helps Edmonton win games and get closer to playoffs. How does a 3rd round pick and a ECHL player (barely) help Toronto get closer to playoff? .. & don't say "the cap space" cause it's $2M when the cap is rising by $3.5M next year so Brown's deal isn't a huge factor. He wouldn't even be one of the top 3 players that Toronto looks to move. Marleau, Kadri, and Zaitsev will all be considered first and that clears enough cap space to sign guys

There's no guarantee that Brown is playing with McDavid there. The logic that TOR should move 3rd rounders in exchange to 4th line players because of the slight chance of them playing with either Matthews, Tavares or Marner doesn't make any sende. Just because your team has good assets doesn't make the other teams assets worth more that they currently are.

And Brown is not that big of a factor that your team wouldn't get to the playoffs. You have high end players and good prospects to fill that gap easily. And $2M is still $2M more cap space, ya know. In this era where many teams are close to the cap limit, even the $2M might be conclusive.
