Team of Misfits - Turris Hoffman Kadri Luongo Zaitsev

Created by: mrrobotcp
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 26, 2019
Published: Apr. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These are all teams that are reportedly in tight financial seasons for the next year:

It seems Bobrovsky is going to FLA next year. They'll need to make space.

It also seems that Turris is having a hard time in Nashville, so why not come home.

Toronto may be fed up with Kadri now and I always hear that the Zaitsev contract has been a financial anchor for them, so why not give them a serviceable RHD at a discount.

Zaitsev could be moved by TO but I don't think in a Lucic style cap dump. He's valued by the team but its clear they could save some money by moving him. I think TO only moves Zaitsev if it makes sense, they aren't desperate to move him. Kadri on the other hand has too good of a contract for the Leafs to move him. (Believe me I have pondered this a lot, he deserves a lot of blame for this 1st round loss) So its a definite no from TO.

I know he had a really good season. It's reported that Bobrovsky and Panarin will sign in FLA next year. That's going to be a cap hit of 17-20 million. Hoffman is making 5-6 million, 29 yo and has 2 more years left I believe on his contract. So to get rid of Luongo's contract which is around 4 million, they're going to have to sweeten the deal.

Okay I see. Yea I would keep Kadri if I were you guys. Is Marleau more of a cap dump perhaps?

Bob and Panarin will be 20M+ probably. Also why just dump Hoff for nothing when they could get a legit return for him?

Exactly, that's a huge cap hit. Because teams know they would like to shed salary. Teams do this all the time.

Fair enough but it happens all the time. For example, when Vancouver got Erhoff and when Carolina got Teraveinen.

Yeah.. Toronto says no easily. Sure it helps their cap structure, but 2 players with term for one year of Tanev.. & lets be honest, he'd be lucky to play 50 games next season again. That doesn't help Toronto at all. Plus both of Zaitsev and Kadri have better value than that by themselves in separate trades..

worst trade offer I've seen.

Vancouver fans never like to listen, but Tanev (due to his injury history and recent fall off in play) is practically worthless in the eyes of GMs. Yzerman offered Jake Dotchin, and the Leafs offered Matt Martin before the season.
If you have an athletic membership, its all outlined here:

Tanev also has some horrific numbers atm
