Took a pay cut to stay in Montreal. That's the kind of players you want.

He was excellent in his short time with the Habs, and this contract is very reasonable, I thought he might command more. Bizarrely he was very effective on the PP and actually gave it legs right in the last few weeks of the season after nearly a full year of embarrassment. Also a good right-handed face-off guy.

Even as a Flyers fan who was not a big fan of Weal, this is a very good value/dollar signing for Montreal. Wish the guy all the best, except against us of course.

Honestly, I though Weal was a very solid player for Philly his only downside was that he just couldn't put the puck in the net. Good signing for the Habs.

Wow, I'm glad he's signed already. Nice to see our bottom 6 rentals doing well.

Last year CJ had to roll 3 lines because he couldn't trust the fourth line to do the job.

Now we have the players to roll 4 lines for real.

either Byron - Thompson - Armia
or

Byron- Thompson - Weal...

Nonetheless, a RHCenter is great for a team with 4 LHC? (someone other than Shaw)

Did anyone really expect him to sign for more?
He's been in the NHL for 4 years and played for 4 different teams.
If you ask me they could have probably got him for league minimum if not closer. He's a journeyman.
He did have a nice stretch for MTL, but that doesn't mean all that much. He needs to prove he can do it for a full year somewhere, which he hasn't done yet.

I can almost guarantee he could've gotten more in FA. There are players who put up PPG in the AHL that got similar to a deal like this. He could've got closer to 2 million if he walked to FA. Teams who watched him play in his games in Montreal definitely saw something in him.

I doubt it. He hasn't proven he's worth anything. He had a 16 game stretch where he was hot. He's had that like no where else. There is no history to go off of. He's like Edmonton signing Alex Chaisson last year. League minimum.

He signed for 1.8 Million when he put up 21 points in 69 games. It's a good contract whether you want to admit it or not. Weal and Chiasson are two different players.

Career high of 8 Goals! Career high of 21 points! And...He's 27 years old! Most 4th liners at his age are playing for league minimum and there's no guarantee he even stays in the MTL lineup next season. Why not $1.4M for one season?. His upside potential is probably 27-30 points next season while his downside is being healthy scratched.Bad signing, in my opinion.
