Not happening but the only way a Kessel trade makes sense is if you upgrade

Any Kessel trade is dumb unless the team somehow manages to get an RW that can produce a lot. Here's one way to do it that has a 0% chance of happening.

If you think a Kessel move is dumb, what do you make of the Malkin rumours?

You trade Kessel to upgrade other positions. RW is the strength of the pens. Especially since the plan is to keep McCann on the top line LW and move Jake to RW. Move Horny up to line 2 and hope he performs like he did when he was with Geno before. Getting a top 6 LW from a Kessel trade makes Rust and Blueger to flank Bjugstad. Leaving Simon, Johnson/Palve, and ZAR for the fourth line

the only place to find Malkin "rumors" is on clickbait web sites. Which people with low IQs keep in business by being dumb enough to visit them.

Sullivan doesn't really like Guentzel on the RW. It took him until game 4 to do that against the Islanders.

Hornqvist really struggled in the second half of the year and in the playoffs. Rust was inconsistent and not good in the playoffs. If you lose Kessel, you don't have a a RW who is a scoring threat. Only way any trade Kessel trade isn't a disaster is if you can find a way to replace those 82 points.

Chris Johnson of sports net specifically said it's out there (mentioned Malkin by name) and the gmjr is looking to make a big move.
I'd like to also add that he said nothing was guaranteed ofc, but that Malkins name has been thrown around

This wasn't on tv for clickbait though.
He mentioned it as an offhand comment in an appearance on a podcast.

The question was:
Which team will overreact like the Blackhawks did and trade panarin for Saad?

A: the pens are getting antsy.
Q: what like moving Kessel?
A: malkin

He might not like him on the RW but the line works with McCann and Guentzel. McCann has said that they talked in their first meeting with the coaches after the sweep on what they expect of him so that he can stay on that first line. I think it’s more that they want McCann to improve his game along the boards than Guentzel playing his off wing.

I think it could be 1 of 2 things...Hornqvist either came back from the concussion too soon, or he spent most of the second half on the bottom 6 (particularly 3rd line). I think he is just at that point where he does great things but if you want him on the score sheet, put him with Geno or Sid. I mean he scored what? Like 16 goals in the first half of the season then 1 or 2 goals the second half? I don’t think he lost it, just a victim of circumstance. Makes trading Kessel make all that more sense so that Hornqvist isn’t buried on that 3rd line. And I’m not saying not to replace Kessel. What I’m saying is use him to upgrade that 2nd line LW. Hornqvist is terrible on the left side. So getting that 2nd line LW upgrade from a Kessel trade could make moving Hornqvist up to line 2 not so much of a risk.

When you are looking at clickbait and you don't even realize it.
You realize these idiots have to just make up content to have anything to talk about and get you to read it right.
Honestly, the only real news going on in the NHL right now are the playoff games. After that there is not much. Most executives are taking breaks after their final interviews and will worry about it at the end of the playoff season. They aren't working on block buster trades.
