Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 27, 2019
Published: Apr. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens trade up at draft trading for Montreals 1st to snag Cole Caufield in return for Olli and Pens 1st.

Malkin moves to Crosbys wing and Brock Nelson signs to be #2 center. Malkin is too costly defensively to be center nowadays and Crosby is older and could actually use two good wingers now instead of carrying Dominik Simons and Conor Shearys. Bjugstad moves to LW to utilize his big shot with Horny wrecking havoc in front. McCann centers dangerous 3rd line and 4th line has a little bit of everything.

No more JJ. Hes gone. Some team will take him for a late pick or something. Brodie comes in and then Pens will have to decide to keep him or Schultz after as they are both UFA`s.

when people just throw names together.

Malkin is Left handed, he has no business playing on a RW. Not to mention that his game and Crosby's game don't even match. Malkin plays North South, Crosby is a grinder.

Cole Caufield is 5'7 and like 150lbs soaking wet.
I know people like to think these little wingers is the "new hockey" but it isn't. Come the playoffs they get run.
No one wants a TB regular season wonder team just to get bounced early because your 5;7 wingers got smashed in the boards all game. He's a waste of a 1st round pick.

He's probably not available for the pens anyways.

Not a chance Detroit does that, Linus Olund isn't worth much more than a 5th himself, so its just giving them Johnson. Going to take a lot more to get rid of him than that. Nelson will likely resign in NYI, and probably for more of the tune of 6M dollars. Even though Malkin has played RW in the past, its ****ing moronic to put him on RW there, Bjustad on LW, and McCann at 3C. With that lineup its the same thing as last year, other than the first line, we suck. I don't think we would get all that for Kessel either, Calgary is much more likely to trade any defenseman other than Brodie, imo.

Small players are fine blame the team effort not a player

small players get killed on the boards. That's just a fact. When you need people to go get their hands dirty and fight for the puck the last think you want is a 5'7 player.

Cole Caufield will be an elite goal scorer in the NHL the guy is unbelievable. And yeah hes small but every scout says he plays big and size isn't an issue for him. And if guys wanna try and abuse him then Guddy steps in.

Also Malkin has played on Crosbys RW before. They would put up crazy points together and Malkin wouldn`t drive everyone nuts as a defensive liability anymore.

I know everyone on here hates JJ and I do too but realistically there is easily a team who would give up at least a 5th for JJ. Its crazy but its 100% true. I just hope GMJR does it.

Calgary deal is tough you could swap Brodie out for Hanifin or Hamonic there too if you think that's more realistic.

Malkin is too much of a defensive liability he just doesn't buy into what Sully wants. He would be better suited on Wing at this point and just tell him to go out and score. If Nelson or someone signs as 2C then I have no problem with McCann as 3C hes fast as hell and can score and will actually have good line mates on third line.

We have a lot of right handed shooters. Bjugstad moves on LW because he has an unbelievable shot so the idea is to put him on his off wing and open him up to use it. Hornqvist does his thing in front of the net and Bjugstad rips it all day. Then Rusty, Aston-Reese, Dube, Mangiapane and Guentzel can all play on their preferred sides as well.

That's why they traded Maatta to move up and take him. Probably will be there at that point if not then take Krebs or Lavoie.

The same Guddy everyone wants to trade away because he's a 4 million 3rd pairing?

Honestly, haven't you learned enough from watching hockey to realize how much of a fairy tale this thought process is?
How good was Sheary fighting for a puck on the boards? Would you want Cam Atkinson fighting for pucks on the boards? Or frankly any other 5 foot nothing player.

It's really great for regular season hockey. But in the playoffs when a player like Matt Martin is out there getting credit for 9 hits a game, and not getting credit for god knows how many others, where do you think that puts your 5'7 player?

I know people want to deny reality, but there is a point where you have to have the size to really be effective. Johny Manzel was a great QB in college. In the pros he could barely see over the linemen. It effected his game. It's not much of a difference in hockey. You are either big and strong enough to hit those boards and win those 50/50 puck battles or you are not. When you are not it becomes a problem and is very obvious and everyone else picks up on it. The last thing this team needs is another player not willing to dive into the pile and go get a puck. Let someone else waste a pick on a player like that.

I don't think too many people want Gudbranson gone anymore. Hes played really well there and to me has earned his $4 million price.

In terms of smaller players you have absolutely no idea what youre talking about...

First off the comparison to Johnny Manziel is insane. But even that is a foolish point because Kyler Murray just went first overall. Drew Brees is one of the best QBs ever. Russel Wilson????

If you ever actually watched Conor Sheary play then you would know that he is good on the boards. He played a grinding, cycle game with Crosby and won two cups? Smaller players can be effective down low and on the boards if they have good lower body strength. Sidney Crosby is the best player ever down low, winning puck battles and powering through people. Hes 5 11. The Penguins won back to back cups with small, fast players. That was 2016 and 2017, and now teams model themselves after Pitt because its what wins championships. Yes, there are some smaller players who can get pushed around. Johnny Gaudreau isn't going to overpower you. But players like that are so elite with their skating and edges that they make up for it. Just because you`re 6 3 doesn't mean your automatically better down low. There are bigger players in the league who aren't great at winning 50/50 pucks because theyre too slow. Literally just watch any hockey game and you couldn`t possibly have such an ignorant perception of small players. For years teams were taking the big bulking power forwards in the first round because of their size and strength. Loads of those players ended up being busts. Teams wont speed and skill now with a fighting mentality to play tough and get to the dirty areas and win 50/50 pucks. Size CAN be helpful but there are also small players who excel at that too.

I hope to god Pitt can get Caufield. Hes going to be an elite player who consistently scores 40+. Ask any scout about him and they say "size is not an issue for Caufield".

No one wants Gudy gone? Are you kidding me? Have you read the ACGMs on here?

Little players get killed on the boards. Those are just facts of hockey. No one who watched Sheary play for pittsburgh would even argue otherwise. He was a completely useless player unless he was getting carried on Crosby's back. The goal isn't to win games in the regular season. The goal is to win games in April when they count.

Guddy played very well down the stretch and in playoffs. I don't know many real Pitt fans who want him gone...

And yeah Sheary and the 2016/17 penguins were SOOOO bad along the boards that they only won back to back Stanley Cups??? Haha I can`t tell if you`re trolling or not right now because its all just been ridiculous.

Sheary was demoted right off the team because he wouldn't go fight for pucks. And go look at every ACGM on here, they are all trading Gudy.
