No way Ottawa takes both of your bad contracts and gives up a prospect. They might take 1 but not both.

there's an 8th overall pick going back to them. since they can easily afford them theyd be incredibly stupid

There is no one giving up a third round pick for Gagner. More like Gagner +3rd rnd pick for a 5th or 6th round pick.

8th overall is about what it would take to dump Lucic, free and clear. You might get Chlapik in return if they've completely given up on him.

Russell and a 3rd for a 2nd might work for a team desperate for a 3rd pair LHD, but one looking for depth to contend and you'll probably have to retain or more likely take a player in the $2M+ range back, in order to balance the contracts.

Value wise, I wouldn't say it is outlandish, but it's far from "an offer too good to refuse", as you suggest.

Nurse is the one D the Oilers can't consider moving. Nuge for Ehlers might benefit both teams if Winnipeg decides to shuffle some pieces though.

You'd be lucky if you could give Gagner away. For a player to go through 7 teams and trips to the minors in a span of 6 years, there's an issue somewhere.

your evaluation of nurse is really overestimating his skill set. winnipeg could use some help on the left side on defense and cap relief to sign their RFA's. Nuge is far too valuable and a much better hockey player to be traded for ehlers.

If I'm overestimating Nurse, then he isn't worth Ehlers.
If you trade him you'll regret it within 2 years. All he needs is to stop fighting and get a legitimate top pairing RHD to partner with.

Nuge isn't worth more than Ehlers and if he is, the difference isn't significant and his shorter contract negates it anyway.
RNH: 8 seasons, 3 20+ goal seasons, 1 60+ point season.
Ehlers: 4 seasons, 3 straight 20+ goal seasons, 2 60+ point seasons.

last season:

ehlers: 37pts
Nuge: 69pts

Nuge plays centre, tougher minutes and with worse teammates. hes far more valuable

RNH in 16/17 had 43 points despite playing a full 82 games. Would you say I should judge his value based on that one season?

He can play C. Given.
A quick glance at QOT and QOC suggests the rest simply isn't true.
