Let the objections begin Avs and Devs Fans

Description
Devs keep investing in the future, acquiring high pick (If not Byram at LD, than Cozens or Dach for RW) ... After fantastic 2019 playoff run, Avs go for it in 2020, adding & resigning Hall to bolster Wing. Painful 2019-2020 in NJ, but the kids get ice time and the loaded 2020 Lottery awaits. Greene, Zajac, Vatanen and Palmieri stay in place to provide veteran leadership. NJ could also offer a home for a cap strapped team willing to trade a 2019 or 2020 draft pick for cap room.

I would not do this if I'm NJ.. yes you're rebuilding and getting young pieces, but you still need those veterans to lead the way, and Hall is a great player to have while doing that. He's an amazing player and I think you need someone like him for these young kids.

Dont disagree, but he wont sign for anything less than 10.5 to 11 x 8 years and to what end for NJ? He will be burnt by the time they turn the corner. I think they lose him as a UFA or Shero trades him at the deadline. I think NJ is in a tough spot with Hall. Avs have the cap room, talent and the draft assets now

Colorados top line is still young, so i think the #4 is more suitable for them

Devils aren't moving Hall prior to the deadline. If he isn't signed then, then yes h will be moved. However, this team is ready to turn the corner with the lotto hit again. Shero already indicated it's about time to spend money.

Need more than one big line for the cup ... Hall's firepower and leadership could get you there, but sure I understand the argument for keeping 4. I suspect Hall's prime is still > than taking a gamble with (even a high) draft pick.

Defense is terrible and outside of Ty Smith, the D prospect pool is limited to 3rd pair options. Unless they get Karlsson (unlikely), there is no where to spend their way out of the core problem (pls dont say Myers). Sure, they can turn the corner with Hughes et al, but they cant compete with the depth of the top teams. Mid tier hell awaits ... but if they get Karlsson, sure, keeping Hall makes sense. However, I agree with you, doubt Devs make this move, but trading Hall at deadline wont get the same return, as no 2020 high pick team has the same desire/need to make that trade, so in the end, Devs will get less or lose him. This trade would take ownership support, conviction for rebuild and rather large stones.

That's not enough for Hall, would need to be a roster player, the 4th overall, plus a(n) A-B level prospect depending on the roster player.

No desire for EK, he is not good defensively and his contract will blow in the back half. You aren't wrong about the blueline on the Devils, but trading Hall for the 4th pick is not solving the blue line issue. If I am Shero, I am on the phone with the Jets about Trouba and any team in Cap hell.

4th pick gets you Byram. He's not ready year 1, but he could/ should be a D1, at least a strong D2, with PP / special team skills ... but sure, there would need to be more, like a 3rd rounder + maybe a roster guy or a prospect.

And I agree with you on EK. Not my cup of tea for the $$$, but I based that comment on the previous post on the direction they could go in. To stand pat with Hall, someone suggested spending money to upgrade the roster & from what I see, outside of EK, there are few FA options out there that (I believe) would upgrade the D & mean the Devs go for it with the current group. If they get EK (for better or worse), that may give them shot at signing Hall, otherwise, I dont see him staying.

Dont see that in a walk year ... but maybe, depending on the players involved. I think the 3rd rounder is an easy sell, since the Avs have two.

Were you talking about trading him at the deadline? I was talking about trading Hall before the season, maybe even let the other team(s) talk to Hall before the trade to talk an extension. My thought is; if he doesn't resign before the season the Devils should trade him for max value before the pre-season.

Agreed 100% ... think someone else mentioned a deadline deal & I responded. Max value is definately now, pre season ... and for this team, I think draft picks. Rare to find a playoff caliber team, looking to get that last piece with ample cap space & a high pick, like the Avs now. That combo is rare ... motivation to do the trade & the right assets when you need them. At the deadline, motivated teams will have low picks. I just think this is the right fit for the circumstance.... but it wont happen, unfortunately.

Avs have the number 4 pick, their own first rounder (TBD)... a second rounder ... the first pick in the third (Ottawa) & their own third. That's fuel
