I love Jeff. He is exuberant, talented, quick to smile, and seems to be a good team mate. In December after scoring his 26th goal it appeared he would be given a $9,000,000 8 year contract. In his next 42 games he got 14. So does he receive salary commensurate with a 50 goal season or 30 goal season. IMO every GM will make a note of his 8 and 13 streaks of no goals (4 goals over his last 25 games). I think he be paid well, but not nearly $9,000,000, probably closer to $8,000,000. So if we do 9% of 82,500,000 we get $7,425,000 per year, 10% is $8,250,000 per year, 11% is $9,075,000 per year. Take your pick, how much of a discount will he get for being close to Toronto, maybe nothing? I hope he is resigned, I hope living in a low cost of living city will influence his decision. I hope the chemistry he developed with Eichel will help.

I hope Botterill doesn't offer that kind of money to Skinner.

Stone got 9.5 in a state with no income tax. I think 8.75M for Skinner is right about where he belongs. He's not the complete player Stone is but he scored 40 goals and has proven he will score over his career. In my estimation the Sabres need Skinner more than he needs them. If they get Skinner they still need another line of middle 6 forwards to compete. If they lose Skinner they need 6 plus a top line goal scoring wing. That's a tough haul in one summer.

Agreed. Stone is NOT a comp for Skinner at all. Kane is. JVR is.
Edit: Pacioretty also. You're looking at 8.8 - 9.3% of cap.
