you say realistic but then have toront give up the better player and better defenseman while talking about giving up a bottom 6 forward buffalo doesnt have room for. the leafs at full health are up there with the best in the league and buffalo id near the bottom, if he cant make it in buffalo's bottom 6 he defiantly wont make Toronto's

The leafs will have to make more trades then the one i just made. Brown, ennis will be gone and one of Kadri, Johnsson, or kappy. That will open big holes in the leafs. Which they do not have prospects to fill. Sabres a very deep in prospects and 3/4th liners. He will easily make team next year, never said anything about making team this year.

Also if you think Zastiev is better then Risto. You are crazy. Even most leaf ACGM agree you will need to give up good player to get rid of that contract. Nylander just had worst year of his career and everyone know they have to trade him to get under cap. So it is a buy low situation.

LOL .. Toronto isn't moving Nylander and they don't have to at all. There's a handful of players that can and would be moved before Nylander would be. Nylander had a rough (not bad) 6 months after missing 2 months of the season and all of training camp. He was behind everyone from the get-go which is extremely hard to catch up on. Nylander and Marner had VERY similar numbers through their first 2 seasons in the league before this year where Nylander missed time and Marner exploded. Nylander actually had slightly better numbers. So there is no logic that Toronto should sell low on Nylander for cap reasons. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Well hate to break it you But i would bet the farm they do. They cant afford to have 40 million / half the cap tied up in 4 forwards. They will have 3 players making 10.5 million + next year. Nylander is odd man out. ALso, gm is not going to give leafs the benefit of the doubt and give up more because he had better seasons before. Doesnt work that way, gms are trying to get best trade possible and that means looking at his TERRIBLE season and his CANCEROUS attitude over contract.

LOL - you're gonna lose your farm then. Marleau, Zaitsev, Kadri, Brown, and Hyman are all possibilities to be moved before Nylander does. They don't need to clear that much cap space. Only about $6.5Mish.. move Zaitsev and Brown, that's $6.6M gone and Nylander kept. It's not as hard as you think it is. Mark my words, Nylander will not be moved this summer. Try learning something about hockey instead of just believing everything you read on capfriendly, then bet the farm. You wouldn't lose so many bets then wink

if they were very deep in the 3rd and 4th lines how come only the 1st line was scoring and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th were brutal?

The Ottawa trade makes no sense unless you can tell us now much actually $$$ Ottawa is paying for LTIR MacArther. Don't know what is the terrible contact the Leafs have? Zaitsev is an OK NHLer, and you can argue he provides better value than the more expensive Risto. Doubt if Smith is an NHLer otherwise at age 24 he would playing for the Sabres and Girgensons is a iffy player even for the Sabres.
So in effect the Leafs are giving Nylander to the Sabres for free. No thanks.

THey need to clear alot more then 6.6 million unless they want to bounced in 4 games against bruins. Also, unless they get rid of those players for picks they will be taking on cap space even it is player on rookie deal. The defense is the problem not the offense. You need to add top RHD and a top 6 RHD. Those cost money and alot more valuable then wingers who had bad years and overpaid. Nylander is nothing without top line center.

You're right about one thing Ottawa is cheap! And that's why they'd never move a fully insured contract in MaCarthur for anything. For Melnyk that contract is a win-win. He doesn't have to pay it and it still helps the team get to the salary cap floor.

He still has to pay the salary. NHL has fully guaranteed contracts. The owner paid MaCarthur salary last year and will next year.

Right. But because MaCarthur is injured and can't play Melnyk doesn't foot the bill for his contract. The insurance company that insured the deal is paying it. Common practice around the NHL. Although in some cases there are contracts that go uninsured.

Only 80% of the contract. They also need to sign 17 million in contracts to reach cap floor while not improving team. They are in full tank mode for next 2 years. What better way to tank then to Sign sabres players!!! On serious note they are both Vets that played on good teams and can help the rookies. They also will be able to get picks back at deadline.

Ottawa is in a rebuild, they aren’t giving up picks, simple as that.

Like i said they will get picks back at deadline. They much rather have rentals they can flip at deadline then sign UFAs to long term deals. They need to get to cap floor somehow.
