Toronto and Nashville

Description
I think the Toronto deal works out really well for both teams. Toronto gets a young, steady RD whose locked up for fairly cheap who can immediately be placed anywhere in the top 4. (I personally think a Severson/Rielly pairing would look great.) They also gain around 9M in cap space to resign Marner and Kap. Marleau would immediately be bought out and could sign back to Toronto on a cheap deal since NJ would be paying this contract like Orpik last year. (I highly doubt he waives his NMC without that kind of deal in place)

NJ gets a young high skilled offensive winger to put with either Nico or Hughes.

I doubt this is enough for PK and also doubt he gets traded at all, but if he does, NJ make the most sense as a team that can take on his cap hit without any problems. NSH would get a cheap 3rd pair RD in Santini and a young C in Zacha who is one of the best penalty killers in the league and who is brimming with offensive potential that may be unlocked with a change of scenery with better players around him.

Like I said, I doubt that trade is realistic, but I think there is a trade to be made somewhere between these teams, and if NJ can get PK without giving up Hall, Nico, Hughes, or Smith, they should jump on it. Also replaces Severson on the R sign with a massive improvement.

As a Leafs fan, sign me up for that trade after watching Nylander and Marleau in the playoffs. But Marleau won't waive his NTC to go to the Devils.

That trade is all about getting Marleau's contract off the books for Toronto, in the notes of the trade he's saying the Devils buyout Marleau so he would never have to go to NJ and would be free to sign with TOR or anyone else for less money.

nylander was one of the best players in the playoffs. the reason he didnt score was because he was playing with marleau and brown

I really like the concept of these trades working together, I'm just not sold on P.K. as a savior for our defense.

He played good defensively, but I didn't see to much offence. All I saw was a guy who got bumped off the puck easily, was afraid to take a hit, and had some bad turnovers. He is a good player and could bounce back easily, but the Leafs have enough skilled players and he should be the one to go to better the defence. Nylander for Pesce at the beginning of the year would have been great, but I think Pesce has passed Nylander significantly now.

Oh I agree, he bought a house with his family in Toronto, he wants to stay there. But with this trade, Devils buy him out and then resign with TOR on a 1-year/1.5M contract or something to that extent since Devils will be paying him that other contract and taking all of the cap hit from it.

he was so unlucky all season, he led the leafs in takeaways and threw a bunch of checks. he makes matthews so much better but his offence just wasnt there. his shooting percentage will go up so he will score more and he will have far better wingers next year. brown is brutal in the oz and im not near an echl player but I could bring just as much to the table as marleau does in the oz.

Savior may be way to strong of a word and it definitely has a lot of risk for NJ, but he's an upgrade however you look at it from Severson and with just 3 years left on his deal, he comes off the books for Hughes' first big boy contract.

Yea, I see this year for Nylander as a completely off year that isn't indicative of the actual player he is. He is really, really good. It mainly comes down to staying out of cap hell for Toronto. The question they need to ask is trade like this and being able to keep Kap and whatever RD a Nylander trade will get worth more for this team then the offense he brings will provide. In a vacuum Nylander is the best player in this trade bar none, its the corresponding moves and team build that needs to be looked at. Asset management. I dont know if this trade is the answer but something like this is a possibility.
