Two things?

Leafs would happily pay Marner 9.5, What would the Ducks trade for Marner?

I'm just pointing out that if Marner was on any other team but Toronto, 9.5 million is a rereasonable contract

taxes, hometown pressure, and teammates contract means leafs kind of have to overpay him. but 9.5 is extremely reasonable. maybe it goes down by 1 mill if he's in florida or dallas, heck even vegas. look what mark stone signed for, and he's IMO a top 5 winger in the league

Signing bonuses are taxed at 25%... Marner’s in more commercials than Matthew Mcconaughey. He loves playing in Toronto...

I don’t buy any of those excuses. Not saying he won’t get more but I think 9.5m to me seems like fairly market value. It sure seems to me like rfa’s are getting more than ufa’s these days...

yeah, but its not like nylander signed for market value. niether did matthews. wheres the incentive or role model for him to sign less? Tampa established one with the stamkos and hedman contracts. watch point sign for slightly less as well

Nylander and Matthews are both market value. I had nylander pegged for 6.75m x 6 and mathews at 12.5m x 8. Funny how the 8.5m offersheets were flowing for nylander and 15m for mathews... till we sign them.... then they are overpaid.

Marner wants 11+, GM of Toronto's own fault that handed out such contracts to Matthews and Nylander now reaping the benefits.

No? Talk is that Marner is seeking at least $11 million per perhaps north of that.

I think Marner would demand max money if he were playing here (he should demand max money anyway). I'm not sure I fully understand the circumstances as to why he'd be here but if it's by trade I can't imagine Dubas would be eager to accept anything we have to offer. Marner is dynamic and should play ever game of his career in blue and white.

nylander is no where near market value, especially due to his recent production, in the playoffs and regular season. pastarnak is miles ahead of him. plus he couldn't even play the center position well. matthews you had to overpay. and as reported by friedman, marner is asking for 11.5 mill, and leafs are shocked that he wont take 9.5. i mean, they shot themselves in the foot with the nylander contract.

It will get done, I’m not too worried. Nylander asked for 8.5m and he got 6.9m

I’m not even defending him. Saying I’m not sure yet seems fair assessment. Are you 12 years old or is it just being a Habs fan that makes you so ignorant?
