Horton is being paid by insurance and doesn't count against the cap, no reason for the Leafs to trade Johnnson to move him.
Lehk and a first is overkill for Ghost.

Horton doesn't count against the Cap. But Columbus didn't get insurance on his contract because of the shoulder surgery he had coming out of the playoffs. That why they took Clakson for him, at least Clarkson took the ice for them even if he was overpaid. In the end it's a moot point. Toronto has the money to pay.

LTIR isn't a get out of jail free card. Horton's Cap hit is still part of the overall Team Cap until the day after the Season starts.

If the Leafs had $5M of space and wanted to sign Marner to a $10M deal they could only sign the Deal on the 2nd day of the Season as they would then be able to put Horton on LTIR for Cap relief at that time.

No player may be on LTIR if the team has Cap space available. Otherwise nobody would need to trade these Contracts away, would they?
