Replace Benning with a pick in the trade and of that 1.9 spend it this way: 750K to Marner, 500K each to Johnsson and Kapanen

I have Marner at 10 because I could see it go both ways up or down. It is a tough contract to predict.

As for Kap and Johnnson their comparables get around what they got...Specifically looking at Kase. Mantha is a higher end version of Kap.

For this to work Kadri has to want to go to EDM...I imagine most players have EDM on their no trade lists right now.

i really like Matt Benning, i even did an AGM like this where I traded for Larsson and Benning but it straight up does not make sense for Edmonton. if they're giving up anyone it would only be Larsson for Kapanen, it saves more cap space for both teams (who both drastically need it) and then the Leafs D would look more like this:

    Rielly - Larsson
    Muzzin - Dermott
Rosen - Liljegren/Holl/other RHD if Liljegren isn't NHL ready

That doesn’t make sense for Toronto. Kapanen is controllable as an RFA for multiple years. Age is huge especially in a cap world. There is no way Kap goes the other way with Larson coming back.

Kadri makes sense due to being similar in age and UFA years.

Rosen is better choice than Benning. No deal with Oilers

It makes no sense for Edmonton to take on Kadri (who can also deny the trade as he has a modified NTC). They're not trading a top 4 RHD for a 3rd line center. Kapanen can keep up with McDavid. The Oilers' biggest issue is speed and wingers. Kapanen fits that bill perfectly. As for Toronto, without Kadri they'd have to put Nylander there as you did with Moore and Bracco. Kadri fits that line better, and Nylander fits the Matthews line better than Kapanen. Trading Kadri can be done but it makes more sense to trade a RW for a D because they have plenty of wingers and Edmonton has none. Kapanen also has more value for the exact reasons you mentioned so you would get more back. Also keep in mind Babcock directly referenced Korshkov and Mikheyev in the press conference after the season, 2 more wingers looking to make the roster.

Kadri is not a 3rd line centre....come on. Just because he plays behind Matthews/JT does not make him a 3rd like centre in the NHL.

    He’s a top 6 C. A top 6 C gets you a 2nd pairing D.

It’s not too hard to get. Kadri has 3 years and Larson has 2. Both similar cap hits.

Kadri is not better than McDavid, Draisaitl or Nuge. On Edmonton he's a 3rd line center. Gotta look at both sides bud
