Just to clarify, this rule applies for waiver exempt players...

What if you have a full compliant roster and your waivered player would be a downgrade from original roster, but he meets pre-reqs?
In that instance are we allow to play him in the minors?

There isnt a list. But we do have a threshold though...

- If they are up with their respective NHL club, they must be in the NHL in game
- Also a 25 game stint in the NHL also means they must be in the NHL.

Wait, did you just say if they're in the NHL IRL, they must be in the NHL in-game?

Then it gets waived off. If your roster is filled with day to day NHLers, than the requirements would get voided.

What are the rules of acquiring a player that I traded who was then traded with retention? These trades happened months ago

A player may be traded with retention up to 50% split however. That being said, if you previously retained and are re-acquiring a player your team will not receive the cap benefits of your previous retention; however, you will benefit from other teams previous retention.

Confirmed.
It's right in the rules and you can also find it here on CF somewhere, but I can't do all your homework, it's late and I'm old

Retaining Salary
Teams may only retain salary on three contracts at one time, this includes contracts that were retained on before the start of the GM Game. One team may only retain a maximum of 50% on a contract. Salary can be retained on one contract a maximum of two times.

What is a retained salary transaction/trade
When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:

The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and Salary Cap Hit, and cannot be modified.
All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.
Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15 percent of the Salary Cap Upper Limit.
Players’ contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract.

Once a retained salary transcation has occured, there are various limitations, such as:

A team cannot reacquire a player whom they have retained salary from for a minimum of one year after the date of the transaction, or unless the player's contract expires or is terminated prior to the one-year date.
All teams involved in a retained salary transaction will have cap implications if the contract is bought out or terminated.
Teams who retain salary on a players contract, will have the full value of the cap hit act against the teams salary cap total, regardless of whether the player is reassigned to the minors by their current team.

Just wanted to make sure that they don't consider this cap circumvention, which it looks like they don't.

But it is. Read the last paragraph.

Ohhhh, now I see what you're saying.
Sorry, I thought you retained on a guy and now want to re-acquire him.
Nothing to see here, move along people.

It's too bad the real BOG don't ever answer these questions smile

Are you back on the current version of the BOG?
Honestly the only one I know of is Cap and the guy who posts the official waiver claims.
Beyond that I don't know who the other members are right now.

Also to answer your question DD, if you trade a player to a team that trades him with retention again, you could re-acquire that player.
