Bad Contracts I Would Target To Also Acquire Picks and Prospects

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 6, 2019
Published: May 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am targeting these players in order to keep the Wild (somewhat) competitive now, but mostly to build for the future. I think GM Paul Fenton should be looking into what the return would be for these and others. I am only looking at players with a MAX of 3 years left on their current deals...so no Lucic!
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Backes, David
  2. Studnicka, Jack
Additional Details:
Backes is the biggest no-brainer of all! He is a MN kid so he can easily be sold to the fanbase. He shoots right and can play center or wing. Boston fans, what compensation would the Bruins offer the Wild for taking on his contract???
P.S. I know Studnicka would not be involved here, but his name usually gets a lot of attention...
BOS
  1. 2019 6th round pick (VGK)
2.
MIN
  1. Carlsson, Gabriel
  2. Dubinsky, Brandon
Additional Details:
Jackets fans, same question.
CBJ
  1. 2019 7th round pick (MIN)
3.
MIN
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
  2. Sekera, Andrej
Additional Details:
Ditto.
EDM
  1. 2020 7th round pick (WPG)
4.
MIN
  1. MacDonald, Andrew
  2. 2019 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Same question.
PHI
  1. 2021 7th round pick (MIN)
5.
MIN
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. Stephens, Mitchell
Additional Details:
Ditto.

Tampa won't move anything substantial to dump Callahan. They can buy him out and only have about $2.7M on the cap this year and $1.7M on the cap next year if they do. Best you get is a 2nd or a B- prospect

philly have enough cap space to keep MacDonald. You are not getting the 11 OA pick for 1 year at 5M

I love Stephens, but I'd give him up in order to get Callahan's contract off the books.

"Ditto."

Love that additional detail.

These moves are pretty sensible imo.

I have a weird feeling that something is going on with Backes. The bruins are clearly done with him. I have a feeling a post concussion LTIR is coming (he's had about 3,000 concussions, some of them bad. there were reports that he was thinking about not returning for this season).

Having said that if he wants to keep playing, valid compensation I think would be a high potential, mid value prospect like Bjork, maybe up to JFK, and a 3rd or 2nd.

Columbus has no pressing reason to move Dubinsky at this time. Unless Duchene, Panarin and Bobrovsky all say they want to come back and we need the cap room, there’s no pressing reason to move him when we’re 30 mil under the cap as it stands today.

That doesn't really matter. The value isn't there enough for Tampa to do it. They can save $3M just by buying him out and not losing anything. That makes much more sense and has been talked about
