Zibanejad - is just starting to hit his strides and can easily put up 80 next year
Georgiev - Cheap Goalie who has the potential to turn in to the starter Edmonton has been looking for
Andersson- Still only 20 and can easily crack their top 6 in a few years
Pionk - Young RHD who still needs some seasoning
Buchnevich - Immediately their best winger who is not a center (draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins)
2 1st Round Picks

Trade helps a lot of the needs that Edmonton has and if they need cap space you could add Lucic.

I would rather them address the defense than add McDavid as crazy as that seems. The way it's constructed is highly suspect, we need another LHD that's solid + cheap and a top pairing RHD

Yea but this way you are giving the young kids a chance to play on defense while still have some veterans in Skjei and Shattenkirk while still having the ability to play Staal a little bit. The Rangers other D prospects are at least another year away

You have to include the 2nd overall this year if you want McDavid. Even then, you might have to take salary going back. Lucic is overkill, but maybe Sekera or Russell.

This isn't the NBA. Superstars don't completely take over in the NHL as they do in the NBA.

If you trade half your team for Lebron or Durant, it makes sense. All you need on the court are 1 or 2 Big names, and that will qualify as a "team".

Doesn't work the same way in the NHL, where you roll multiple lines night in and night out. While McDavid would obviously be a huge asset to have, trading away all your talent around him, in order to acquire him at all, weakens your team more in the process. Having multiple lines of solid talent is more beneficial than having the Best Line in Hockey followed by a bunch of crappy ones.

At that point, you're basically just the Oilers. And nobody wants that.

Yea but theres one huge difference between the Rangers and Oilers. That is the way that management has set them up to succeed. When McDavid got there the team was stacked and if they were smart about it they could have dominated for years. But instead they decided to make the worst trades ever and now they are left with only two or three really good players. The Rangers even if they trade all those players and picks still have young kids a plenty to grow on forward and defense while still having Lundqvist in net and Igor in the future. It's all about asset management and Edmonton has failed at that for years. The Rangers could actually make it work for years with their prospects.

If u add the second OA than that is way too much value for Edmonton u could add Winnipeg's pick too, but then it starts to border overkill

It's not way too much. It's McDavid we're talking about. Generational talent.

So 5 NHL ready players plus 2 future draft picks and one draft pick which will probably be Kaapo Kakko for one player. That is too much to ask for, the value isn't in how much u can get, it's what u r recieving in each.

It's what he means to the Oilers, the league, and the game. I'm not saying there isn't value there, it's just not enough. You even admit above that 3 of the 5 players need time/work.

I understand that they need work, but that's what this trade does, if they keep McDavid he will continue to amaze people, but at what cost, they will not be able to afford more players and they won't make the playoffs, ths is gonna give them a little of everything. They would be lucky to make the playoffs twice before his contract would end. Yes he is one of the best, but long term they are going to struggle while he is there and they wont be bad enough to pick top 5 in the draft. So they should improve all three areas with his departure

I get your point, but he doesn't move for that package. What you offer doesn't guarantee them to finish better than with McDavid. It has the potential to, but no guarantees. With McDavid, you're getting a guarantee.

I can agree with that, but I wonder how many more seasons can they miss the playoffs before McDavid wants out

He's signed a contract and players like that typically don't request a trade out.

Honestly, the Rangers are better keeping those assets. Maybe go after a FA this summer. Just ONE though. In two years, I bet they make the playoffs.
