NYR does not have cap issues, but still wouldn't accept this deal

Every trade has the Hawks giving up way too much...the Carolina trade is just embarrassing. And given these lines and a 25 player roster you haven't a clue what you're doing do you?

I actually think CAR trade is pretty spot on for what it would take. Canes wanted saad for faulk straight up which is an underpay for saad but de haan is their second best d man and much better than faulk. It probably takes saad and a good prospect so picks coming back to chicago even it out in this case

DeHaan isn't their 2nd best D guy...seriously? Faulk has been good in the playoffs but Pesce is #2 over DeHaan IMO and maybe even Hamilton. But here's the kicker; giving up 2 solid prospects in Mitchell (worth a 2nd rounder) and Barratt (worth a 3rd maybe 2nd) is way too much. Mitchell and Barratt are showing they absolutely have what it takes. In fact, Mitchell I believe is a lock for second line and potential first line. I'm not giving up Saad, Mitchell and Barrat for DeHaan and a 2nd and 6th...no way. Saad and a 3rd rounder or someone like Entwistle sure.

meant to say defensive d man but you could make a case for 2nd best overall. But what you said doesnt make any sense. If mitchell is worth a 2nd and barratt is worth a 3rd and de haan is worth saad+3rd then saad+barratt(3rd)+mitchell(2nd) =de haan+2nd.

Barratt had a nice college season but really only projects as a 4C in the nhl. Think his ceiling is being a poor mans shaw. But agree with you on mitchell he will definitely be a solid pro, but his game is exactly the same as the rest of our d prospects so hes expendable if he brings back an important piece

Yeah, but when you find a hit on a draft pick because after the 1st round the hit rate is like 30%, you don't trade it away for another chance to hit or miss. Mitchell is a great hit so far and would argue he's potentially worth a 1st now. Barratt IMO is going to be a 3C potentially but nonetheless, is a 3rd rounder all day. You don't trade that lotto ticket in at this point to take another chance at playing the lottery when you know you won something already.

We do considering we will be after panarin or karlsson or duchene in FA, and we still have buch deangelo and pionk to resign. Maybe another ufa.

Team is projected to have around 16mil in cap space this summer and the cap in supposed to increase so it could be closer to 20mil. Key free agents are Buch, DeAngelo, Pionk, and Lemieux. Don't think both DeAngelo and Pionk will be on the opening night roster, personally I think Pionk will be traded. The rest of those contracts should equal around 10mil total (4-4.5 for Buch, 2.5-3.5 for DeAngelo, no higher than 2 for Lemieux). Assuming one of Vlad, Vesey, or Strome are moved that should leave about 13mil for any of Panarin, Duchene, or Karlsson (although the only one I think they will be in on is Panarin). Could also see them trying to package picks/prospects to move one of Smith or Shattenkirk but that is less likely.

Cap situation will be fine.
