Look at his numbers, we wont get huge haul for him at the deadline but decent, better then taking on all the salary. That trade would be equivalent to the wings offering EDM blumpkin.

Haula had a 30 goal, 55 point season on a 3 M dollar deal. I think he's going to be worth quite a bit more.

What about Green + Helm for Manning/Safin/Larkin? Safin's a guy who's played with Zadina and I would say a B prospect. Manning is a cap dump. Helm also a cap dump.

Not sure why either Detroit or Edmonton would entertain that deal.

Russell has some value, but not in Detroit. If the Wings wanted Manning they could have got him for free on the waiver wire, and may get another opportunity to do so in October. Its unlikely Edmonton re-signs Larkin, so he's likely to be available through free agency, if Detroit is interested. Safin is a bit of a gamble at this point.

One of the priorities for the Oilers is acquiring at least a couple of top-6 forwards so that they don't have to mix and match McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent Hopkins. Adding a guy like Helm doesn't serve that purpose. Adding Mike Green could be a good move, it buys time for Bouchard and Bear to develop their respective games, and it should improve the team's transition game. However, Green is in the twilight of his career and may not be interested in paying in Edmonton. Edmonton may be able to scratch that top-4 puck-moving RHD itch in the free agent market anyway.

Good points everywhere. As I see the Oilers going into the next season, they've got:

Draisaitl/McDavid/Kassian
????/RNH/????
????/????/Puljujarvi
Gambardella/Khaira/Gagner
Extra: Brodziak/Cave

Klefbom/Larsson
Nurse/????
Sekera/Benning
Extra:????

Koskinen/????

You need to move out Lucic and Russell and maybe Manning. Who would you put in those spots above?

maybe at the deadline they move green but with all the young d and the idea of Kronwall and maybe ericsson and daley being moved off the roster I think they dont look to trade green until then. I dont think steve would take anything but picks or prospects. safin and a 2nd

Rather than building from your roster, I would prefer to do something like this:

Krieder/McDavid/Kassian
Panik/Draisaitl/Puljujarvi
Tanev/RNH/Marody
Khaira/Ennis/P. Russell
Extra: Cave

Klefbom/Larsson
Nurse/Stralman
Sekera/Jones
Extra: Bear

Koskinen/McIlhenny

Montoya comes off the books in July, and if Holland walks away from Rattie, Rieder, Chiasson, Petrovich, Gravel, and Stolarz he will have close to $6,900,000 in free cap space. In this scenario, the impossible is possible, and Lucic, Russell, and Gagner are all moved without bringing back substantive salary. Brodziak and Manning can be buried in the AHL, if they can't be moved or aren't "lost" to waivers. With the projected increase in the salary cap, Holland may have a bit more than $24,000,000 to play with. I would move Benning as well, because his value is probably good right now, the extra $1,900,000 in cap space would be nice to have, and he might have to be part of the deal to get Krieder, or a sweetener in a Lucic deal. Might lose some good prospects and draft picks to a Lucic, or Russel, deal as well.

Panik = $4,750,000 (est) x 4
Puljujarvi = $950,000 (est) x 2 - he's coming off his ELC and does not have arbitration rights
Krieder = $4,625,000 x 1
Ennis = $1,100,000 x 2
Gambardella = $875,000 (est) x 2
Khaira = $900,000 (est) x 3
Tanev = $1,650,000 x 2
P. Russell = $800,000 x 2
Stralman = $5,000,000 (est) x 2
McIlhenny = $1,500,000 x 1

I think there is a realistic chance that Holland could sign Panik, and he may be willing to give up the assets necessary to acquire Krieder (assuming he thinks he can re-sign Krieder). I'm not sure Stralman would sign, but he might if Holland gives him a salary increase at this late juncture in his career. I am also not so sure that Ennis and Tanev would not sign elsewhere, for similar money. In any case, this is just an example of how Holland could build a much stronger roster and still have around $3,750,000 in cap space left over. That's enough cap space to accomodate a partially buried Ganger contract, or to bring in help if injuries impact key players during the season. That being said, it is still entirely dependent on moving our $6,000,000 in dead salary, and another $7,150,000 in marginal contracts.

If that roster existed, I would hope the new coach would aim for a reasonably even split of ice time among the top three lines; perhaps something like:

1st line = 19 minutes
2nd line = 17 minutes
3rd line = 17 minutes
4th line = 7 minutes

That team would look nice too! What do you think the trade for Krieder would look like?

That's difficult to determine. The Rangers will want a relative king's ransom for him, and yet they don't want to set the price so high that interested GM's turn to the free-agent market instead.

Since they are rebuilding on the fly, I suspect NYR will want some combination of a early draft pick, a grade "A" prospect, and/or a solid young NHL player. I think Holland would want to determine the likelihood of a contract extension before making this kind of deal. If Gorton would broker, or allow Holland to negotiate, a contract extension then I think Yamamoto and the 2020 2nd round pick are the opening offer, if Keider agrees to a five-year extension at $6,000,000 and no trade protection. I'd be happy with a six year contract too, as long as there in no trade protection. I recognize those terms are unlikely to be acceptable to Kreider, but at that salary the advantages of a trade over a free-agent are reduced significantly. I'd also be okay if Edmonton included Benning in the deal, as long as the draft pick slides to no earlier than the 2020 3rd round, or becomes a swap of Edmonton's 2nd round pick for NYR's 3rd round pick.

First off no way in hell would Green ever waive for Edmonton, Helm might because of Holland being their new GM now. And Detroit gets garbage Manning and Safin are crap. Come on man need to do better then this.
