To me I wouldn't do that MTL Trade. Taking on Sekera at $5.5M to me isn't worth moving up 7 spots to me since we already have a good forward prospect pool. We need more defensive prospects

I like the potential around that Habs trade, it depends completely on what the Habs think of Sekera's health, and perhaps also on who is on the board at number 8. But its not totally crazy and would certainly solve a lot of Edmonton's cap woes so sliding down the first round a bit makes a lot of sense for them. Anyone drafted between 8 and 15 is no guarantee of anything anyway. From Edmonton's perspective, this team is better for sure but hinges on an iffy goaltending duo and Bouchard playing a big role on D. Maybe it works out but hard to predict

He's not "always" injured. He took a dirty knee-on-knee hit in the playoffs a couple of years ago and lost most of the following season. He was rushed back too soon (he played still wearing a knee brace) and tore his achilles during off-season training - a common injury following his ACL surgery. Prior to this he was one of Edmonton's most durable players, having missed just 3 of the previous 175 games.

And regardless of where he plays, there's no good reason to throw away a player for nothing if he has value. Besides, Klefbom missed over 20 games last year, Sekera is excellent injury cover. And it's not like you're doing anything useful with the money you saved: $2.5M for an AHL defenseman, overpaying a 4th liner and taking on other team's bad contracts isn't pushing this team forward.

I personally don't think it is bad getting:
Saad (great two way forward with speed, skill and scoring touch next to Nuge would be amazing)
Get Eakin from Vegas that need salary releif... Best 3C option we do have!
Adding Kapanen... I understand Maksimov would be as good or better than Kappy but he is young as well and we need him.

Bobby Ryan might waive for EDM but Lucic is not waiving for Ottawa at all unless there is a trade involving him going to Vancouver.

I still don't believe Chiasson is that good. He literally just stands in front of the net and has his two line mates do all the work. Skating is sub-park and can't really drive the play. I rather them let him go than sign him for 4 years. You never know, could've been a year of luck
