You should stop stressing. Carolina trade will not happen, Brown isn't getting a 2nd and Kapanen will get traded if he wants that much money.

If that’s the case for Kapanen, better sign & trade him quick. Plenty of teams will be willing to give him a 1-2 year offersheet at $4mil. Enjoy the 2nd rd pick!

If there are plenty of teams wanting to offer sheet him, there will be plenty of teams willing to trade for him. That creates a bidding war. You kind of solved the whole return issue right there.

And before you say they'll just wait to offer sheet him, well now they are having to hope they are the ONE team that he wants to go too. So trading is the only way to ensure they get the best shot at signing him.

Lol answering questions before they’re even asked I see.

What you say is true! But that will only hold up until July 1st. After that, let’s say the Islanders offer him a 2 year $4mil aav and he accepts, no amount of hageling will help the leafs then, bidding war is over.

Okay......so why wouldn't they trade him before it comes to that?

I really get a kick out smart guys who keep using July 1 as a threat. "Give me your player for way less than he's worth because come July 1, we are going to offer sheet him and you'll get only a 2nd."

Okay, but we have heard from several teams who are saying the same thing. Who's to say the player isn't going to have his agent go to all these other teams and say if you want me, this is my price and then ask for 5 million? What then?

What if June 15, the Leafs call teams and say give us your best offer and we'll send you Kapanen or Johnsson? Are you going to sit there and say, "Nuh uh, we have to wait till July 1 because its more convenient to us because we are certain we can offer sheet him, regardless of know if the player has any interest in coming to our franchise."

Do you see how this whole argument is stupid? What makes sense is that the Leafs will negotiate with the players who are RFA and either find a contract that works or, they trade them. The threat of an offer sheet is stupid, because so many things have to not happen for that to even be a possibility and then at that point, the player gives his agent direction to go and find one at which time the agent will get the most he can for a contract. Which means the team giving the offer sheet will likely have to pay way more than they should for that player. Like when Dustin Penner got 3.5 million when he was worth less than 2.

Calm down buddy, I’m agreeing with you. It’s likely Dubas isn’t an idiot and starts a bidding war, then deals one of them at the draft. All I’m saying is that there’s an expiration to that bidding war. Which is why I wrote in my initial reply to trade him quick.

I think you need to take a step back from being on the leaf defense force that’s been plaguing this site ever since the Nylander situation. Large part of your fan base are taking things to heart WAY too quick lol breath in, breath out.

I am not someone who gets emotionally invested in this stuff. I just like debating hockey.

I tend to stay away from the really ridiculous stuff.
