While you can argue that trading a high price player is practical, in almost every scenario you are creating holes that then have to be patched together. Marleau is the problem, everyone knows this, but he has 1 year left. Why make bad decisions for just a 1 year issue? You have never explained your reasoning as to why it makes sense to jetison someone as good as Nylander just to appease 1 year of Marleau's contract.

I just think it's wacky to think that he'll take anywhere in the ballpark of 8x10. If we follow the logic that Matthews 11.634 is worth 13.8 (his reported demands for 8 years), I find it a little unrealistic that he'll take 3.8 less than what Matthews was willing to take. A solid million less than Matthews is fair, but for the same term. I just can't see how those negotiations land on 8x10.
