2020 my realistic team

Created by: monops19
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 8, 2019
Published: May 8, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kapanen contract is based on him not having arbitration and only a 2 year term

Johnsson contract is based off of arbitration value and a 4 year contract

I have Marner at the salary for the reason that i believe he will make over 10 but not as much as patrick kane.

i figure i needed to trade either Kapanen or Johnsson. i choose Johnsson due to the higher salary due to arbitration.

i have also choose to trade brown to clear some of the cap.

i believe the best thing to do is wait until the marleau contract is up to make a trade or sign a solid RHD.

i also do not think it is realistic that the leafs trade their only RHD in zaitsev if that is a position of need.
let me know what you guys think.

1.
TOR
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Edmonton has shown before the interest in brown and it makes sense for the leafs to get rid of some cap for a pick
2.
TOR
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (NYI)
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
i feel as if the islanders fit the bill to land Johnsson as they have the space and might lose a highly priced forward. Johnsson would be a cheaper and younger option for them

Theres ZERO chance Kapanen accepts 2 x 2.25mil.
This roster also sucks at RHD.
And you put Matthews as the #3C??

I mean you've fit everyone under an 83.5 mil cap. Now what happens if the cap only goes to 81? Uh-oh...

Again I think it's the refusal to trade bigger cap makes this so unpractical. Duszak a college player from a minor college is good enough for top minutes? Think Hainsey is going to sign for THAT? Roster of 22 and the RFAs might be underpaid.

Didn't Kane sign like 5 years ago? He signed for 15.2% of the cap at the time I believe. So give Marner an even 15% of the 83 million cap why don't ya? That's 12.45.

Every year a young defenceman comes in and plays really good for someone, why can't it be the Leafs? You are so certain that everything is going to be gloom and doom so you just throw high value assets in the garbage. A roster of 22 is perfectly fine, it just means 1 less person sits in the press box. While you can argue that trading a high price player is practical, in almost every scenario you are creating holes that then have to be patched together. Marleau is the problem, everyone knows this, but he has 1 year left. Why make bad decisions for just a 1 year issue? You have never explained your reasoning as to why it makes sense to jetison someone as good as Nylander just to appease 1 year of Marleau's contract.

A 22 year old winger signing for that cap hit is unprecedented.

Oh really, so when was the last time a 22 year old winger made over 10 million a season? It has not happened. Kane was given his contract their cup runs. Marner is leaving his ELC. Come one man, you talk out of both sides of your mouth on contracts. When its the Bruins, McAvoy is going to get less than 5 million and Marner is going to get McDavid money. Its ridiculous.

well, I don't think it's a good comparison by any means, but it isn't unprecedented. We were talking percentage of cap, and ovechkin signed for about 19% of the cap.

That was also after 3 insanely impressive ELC years. Scoring over 100 points twice and 65 goals in his contract year.

he signed early on in his 3rd year, so he didn't have that 65 goal season under his belt, put point well taken. I'm not advocating 19% of the cap. I'm not advocating 16% of the cap. I just think it's wacky to think that he'll take anywhere in the ballpark of 8x10. If we follow the logic that Matthews 11.634 is worth 13.8 (his reported demands for 8 years), I find it a little unrealistic that he'll take 3.8 less than what Matthews was willing to take. A solid million less than Matthews is fair, but for the same term. I just can't see how those negotiations land on 8x10.
